MSF-FRANCE is recruiting suitable candidates for the position of: Nurse Supervisor for Chemotherapy and Radiotherapy

Main purpose of the position
The Nurse Supervisor in the Oncology Department will oversee the concurrent chemoradiation therapy (CCRT) and Chemotherapy teams, managing nursing staff and nursing aides. This role requires a comprehensive understanding of oncology care practices, strong leadership skills, and the ability to work collaboratively with MOH and various healthcare professionals to ensure optimal patient care and treatment outcomes..
Job Summary
- Carry out the functions and tasks associated to nursing i.e. perform as a nurse, whenever required or needed, in order to optimize the resources, contributing with his/her knowledge and experience in collaboration within different department and MOH.
- Organize and coordinate the activities of the nursing staff, including scheduling weekly shifts, managing annual leave requests, and addressing absences.
- Carry out and/or supervise the ( decentralized) pharmacy and medical equipment management (drugs orders, followup of the stock, storage conditions, inventories, follow-up of expired drugs and their destruction, drugs consumption, etc.)in his or her department, in order to satisfy the needs of material with efficiency and effectiveness.
- Supervise the management of pharmaceutical needs, ensuring medication availability and timely orders.
- Ensuringthat all staff using medical devices are qualified and trained. Ensuring that cleaning and minor maintenance tasks are performed according to the protocols. Reporting any malfunction to the project biomedical service.
- Supervise the nursing team in the nursing process within their scope of practice (routine nursing care, assessments, treatments and procedures) according to the patient needs and medical prescriptions including:
- Knowing, promoting, implementing and following-up nursing procedures
- Improve the global quality of nursing care within all departments/facilities:o Ensure safe nursing care is provided to every patient
- Ensure applicable MSF/MOH nursing resources are available in each department (ex:SOP manual, medication handbooks)
- Ensure all new nurses are onboarded and provided with competency-based support
- Ensure adherence to universal hygiene standards, biohazard prevention protocols, and infection control measures during treatment processes.
- Implement and/or ensure the continuity of MSF nursing standards and nursing indicators, assessing nursing care (using tools such as nursing assessment tool, documentation audits), setting priorities and objectives
- Adapt the quality improvement strategy for the units under her/his supervision
- Coach, guides and supports nursing communication through nursing documentation (patient file), handover, patient transfers between departments and rounds.
- Participates in regular nursing meeting and hospital meetings/committees where gaps in nursing care may be identified
o Give feedback/ reports to Headnurse.
Specific Accountabilities
1. Patient Care & Support
- Educate patients on chemoradiation and chemotherapy processes, including protocols, side effects, and outcomes.
- Address patient concerns with empathy and clear communication throughout treatment.
- Monitor patient progress, raise concerns with the healthcare team, and facilitate necessary referrals.
- Offer emotional support, identifying psychological or social support needs.
- Provide support to patients with limited autonomy, ensuring appropriate care pathways.
- Work with the 4C supportive care team to address nutritional needs for CCRT and chemothrapy patients.
- Coordinate lab investigations, consultations, and ensure results are updated in the EMR system.
- Oversee patient admissions, surveillance, and follow-up care.
- Manage CCRT patient bookings and follow-up schedules.
- Conduct educational sessions for patients and families to improve treatment understanding and preparedness.
- Maintain patient confidentiality and uphold ethical standards in all interactions and documentation/EMR/
2. Collaboration & Coordination
- Collaborate with oncologists and healthcare teams to ensure seamless treatment and appointments.
- Collaborate with physicians and healthcare professionals on comprehensive treatment plans.
- Facilitate communication between patients and the healthcare team for a collaborative approach to care.
- Participate in multidisciplinary team meetings (MDT) to ensure coordinated patient care and share relevant clinical information with other healthcare professionals involved in the treatment process.
- Attend hospital meetings to discuss departmental performance, challenges, and improvements.
- Coordinate transportation for CCRT patients and assist with reimbursement processes
- Attend and lead monthly team meetings for process reviews and improvement.
3. Treatment Protocols & Management
- Collect and analyze data on chemotherapy and radiotherapy outcomes, collaborating with MOH and IBCC.
- Optimize premedication protocols for patient comfort and treatment efficacy.
- Oversee and coordinate patient booking, preparation pathway before CCRT.
- Assist with medical procedures and chemotherapy administration.
- Ensure patient safety and comfort during treatments
Requirements
Education | At least a diploma in Nursing, Anesthetist or related qualification |
Experience | – Experienced in oncology is desirable. -Desirable 2 years of previous experience in MSF or in other NGO’s |
Languages | Required English and Chichewa |
