Plant Shift Foreman
Lotus Africa seeks to recruit a suitably qualified and motivated individual to the post of a Plant shift foreman at Kayelekera Uranium Mine in Karonga.
JOB PURPOSE:
The purpose of this role is to supervise and coordinate all activities on the shift within the Kayelekera Uranium processing plant, to achieve, safe, compliant and costeffective production of uranium oxide concentrate (U3O8).The plant foreman leads a shift team to safely and efficiently operate the process plant and ensures that production, safety radiation and environmental targets are met. The Plant foreman is the senior operational leader on the shift, and is accountable for people, plant process performance.
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
- Enforce compliance with the Mine Safety Act, Atomic Energy Act, and Lotus SHERQ standards.
- Enforce ALARA principles surface contamination, and personal dose via TLD/EPD tracking
- Ensure safe handling of reagents: H2SO4, H2O2, Lime caustic and flocculants. Lead shift-based risk assessments, Take-5s, and permit-to-work for isolations, confined space, and hot work.
- Direct control room, operators, field operators and contractors on the shift.
- Run pre-start meetings, shift handovers and task allocation.
- Control all plant areas on shift: Crushing, Grinding, Acid Leach RIP, Precipitation, Drying/Calcining, Packaging
- Monitor SCADA to maintain key parameters such as leach pH 1, ORP, RIP barren, and Tailings pH
EXPERIENCE, SKILLS and KNOWLEDGE
- MSCE (Malawi School Certificate of Education)/ equivalent
- Minimum of 3 years of experience in operation of the control room of the drying
- SCADA operation training
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in operation as Senior Plant Operator at the packaging area
- Training on Isolation, Confined space, Working on heights and lock-out procedures
- Computer skills
