MINISTRY OF EDUCATION

Post: Station Manager (Grade F)
Salary: Within the Grade F salary scale segment
Location: Education Radio (Blantyre)

Qualifications

Applicants Should be serving officers at Grade G positions, with a minimum of four (4) years experience at that grade and in possession of a Bachelor’s degree in any of the following fields: Journalism, Humanities (majoring in English or Drama), Mass Communication, and Media for Development, obtained from accredited institutions.

Duties

  1. Taking charge of all the radio programs that are aired;
  2. Ensuring that the station adheres to the broadcast standards and ethics;
  3. Maintaining accurate records, and regularly preparing and communicating reports;
  4. Managing day to day operations, including station inventory and suppliers, safety and security and space allocation/utilization;
  5. Participating actively in defining short and long term goals, policies and procedures;
  6. Monitoring all activities in order to identify necessary changes;
  7. Maintaining a diverse staff while adhering to the station’s mission,
  8. Recruiting, scheduling and training staff.

Post: Principal Producer (Grade G)
Salary: Within the Grade G salary scale segment
Location: Education Radio (Blantyre)

Qualifications

Applicants Should be serving officers at (Grade H) position, with a minimum of four (4) years experience at that grade and in possession of a Bachelor’s degree in either Journalism or Mass Communication, obtained from accredited institutions.

Duties

  1. Coordinating various aspects of production of programs;
  2. Designing programs;
  3. Coordinating outside broadcasting (OB);
  4. Vetting programs in line with broadcasting ethics;
  5. Contributing content to various programs;
  6. Developing new program ideas;
  7. Providing commentary of VVIP and special events programs;
  8. Steering the program form conception which can accommodate talent and creativity.
  9. Bringing together key members of the creative team in production;
  10. Helping executive producers of programs in resource mobilization;
  11. Recommending location, studio bookings, final shooting script and production schedule;
  12. Consulting with executive producer and other key creative members on off-set;
  13. Liaising with picture editor and post production teams on the production process;
  14. Providing production assistant and graphic operators with detailed of graphics to be inserted;
  15. Coordinating all elements of production e.g. Cast, administrative, legal, financial and scheduling issues;
  16. Vetting programs before submitting to the supervisor of before production;
  17. Presenting/ hosting programs;
  18. Developing program proposal;
  19. Interviewing guest in the studio, telephone and on location;
  20. Conducting preliminary research on a particular program;
  21. Making logistical arrangements for interviews.

Post: Principal Engineer (Grade G)
Salary: Within the Grade G salary scale segment
Location: Education Radio (Blantyre)

Qualifications:
Applicants Should be serving Engineers (Grade H), with a minimum of four (4) years experience in that post and in possession of a Bachelor’s degree in either Electronics or Electric Engineering, obtained from accredited institutions.

Duties

  1. Carrying out maintenance work both in the manned and unmanned transmission site;
  2. Carrying out new installation and re- installation;
  3. Supervising the operation of the signal distribution in all transmission site;
  4. Processing requisition of spares needed in the transmission site;
  5. Assessing and report on the welfare of staff in transmission sites;
  6. Making the budget for the transmission site;
  7. Supervising the project conducted in the transmission sites;
  8. Monitoring the signal quality and availability;
  9. Keeping fuel records for generators.

Post: Principal Maintenance and Transformation Officer (Grade G)
Salary: Within the Grade G salary scale segment
Location: Education Radio (Blantyre)

Qualifications

Applicants Should be serving Maintenance Officers (Grade I), with a minimum of four (4) years experience in that post and in possession of a Bachelor’s degree in Electronic Engineering, obtained from accredited institutions.

Duties

  1. Supervising of the maintenance of the equipment;
  2. Supervising the installation of new equipment;
  3. Carries out preventive maintenance practices;
  4. Managing shifts in the Central Control Room (CCR);
  5. Supervising CCR Technicians;
  6. Repairing studio equipment;
  7. Checking if the equipment bought outside matches the existing technology;
  8. Ensuring that studio recordings are perfectly done;
  9. Planning on how outside broadcasting (OB) will be conducted.
  10. Monitoring if the studio equipment’s are in operating status;
  11. Conducting performance management of the division any other duties that may be assigned from time to time.

Post: Senior Producer (Grade H)
Salary: Within the Grade H salary scale segment
Location: Education Radio (Blantyre)

Qualifications

Applicants Should be serving Producers (Grade I) with a minimum of four (4) years experience in that post and in possession of a Bachelor’s degree in any of the following fields: Journalism, Humanities (Majoring in English or Drama), Mass Communication, Media for Development and Communication and Cultural Studies, obtained from accredited institutions.

Duties

  1. Producing special program and documentaries;
  2. Presenting live and recorded programs;
  3. Handling continuity roster for smooth transmission;
  4. Producing weekly programs;
  5. Training radio listening clubs in radio production;
  6. Identifying content gaps in programs;
  7. Conducting preliminary research of the program content;
  8. Developing program proposal;
  9. Responding to the audience feedback and refers them to the concerned departments;
  10. Reviewing the production process to ensure objectives are met;
  11. Managing logistics of getting resource persons and equipment’s for program production;
  12. Ensuring programs are broadcasted on time and consistency.

Note:
Documentary evidence of major requirements specified in the advertisement shall be required during interviews. Serving officers will also be required to demonstrate during the interviews that they are permanent and pensionable officers in the Civil Service by producing letters of confirmation in appointment in addition to letters of condition of appointment on probation (PSR 19).
