African Parks is a non-profit conservation organisation that takes on responsibility for the long-term management of protected areas in partnership with governments and local communities. African Parks manages 24 protected areas in 13 countries covering over 20 million hectares in Angola, Benin, Central African Republic, Chad, the Democratic Republic of Congo, Ethiopia, Malawi, Mozambique, the Republic of Congo, South Sudan, Rwanda, Zambia and Zimbabwe.

Currently African Parks in Malawi manages Majete Wildlife Reserve, Nkhotakota Wildlife Reserves, Liwonde National Park and Mangochi Forest. African Parks – Nkhotakota Wildlife Reserve invites suitably qualified, experienced and passionate Malawians to fill the following vacant positions.

POSITION: INTELLIGENCE ANALYST.

Contract Duration: Two-year contract subject to renewal based on performance. The Intelligent Analyst will report directly to the Park Analyst and Head of Law Enforcement.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE (but not limited to):

  • Maintain situational awareness of environmental, security and political developments relevant to the park.
  • Gather all relevant information received and integrate it with current information to maintain situational awareness in support of Park Law Enforcement operations
  • Analyze and assess information to determine changes in the adversary’s capabilities, vulnerabilities and likely courses of action in support of law enforcement.
  • Produce, present and ensure the timely dissemination of periodic and imprompt reports, intelligence plans and intelligence briefings to internal clients and external partners.
  • Conduct investigative analyses to combat trafficking in protected species and inform internal clients and appropriate responsible authorities and agencies of these analyses.
  • Identify key suspects who may pose a threat to Park’s interests using network analysis techniques and specialist analytical tools and provide appropriate intelligence products to enable Park or partner organizations to pursue them.
  • Focus on learning and applying the latest analytical models to ensure optimum efficiency and effectiveness.
  • Establish and maintain systematic and cross-referenced intelligence files and data.
  • Establish and maintain effective internal relationships with appropriate Park staff who have access information relevant to the work of the Unit to stimulate the flow of intelligence to clients.
  • Establish and maintain effective external relationships with other parks operating around intelligence interest, with appropriate responsible government agencies, and with conservation NGOs.
  • Carry out all tasks within the law and in accordance with the Unit’s Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and Standard Security Operating Procedures (SSOPs).
  • Carry out any other duties as requested by the Head of the Unit within the framework of the role.

QUALIFICATIONS, KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Minimum of Malawi School Certificate of Education (MSCE)
  • Must have an investigation certificate
  • Experience in law enforcement and conservation is a must.
  • Proficiency in Chichewa and English
  • Must be computer literate
  • Strong critical thinking skills and ability to work calmly and quickly under pressure.
  • Exceptional organizational and planning skills
  • Exceptional time management skills
  • Flexible and adaptable to dynamic situations
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Self-starter and ready to work in rural areas
  • Ability to learn quickly.
