Field Expert -Social Issues 1* in Dedza (Focus: Communication)

The position is to be filled as soon as possible, with an initial contract duration of 7 months. There are very good prospects for an extension. The employment location will be Dedza, Malawi. The position is paid according to local pay grade.

The Field Expert -Social Issues supports WHH Malawi projects in Dedza with communication and visibility support of all kinds. The position reports to Project Coordinators and works closely with the Head of Projects.

Your responsibilities

  • Develop and implement communication strategies and work plans, campaigns, events, and other initiatives, ensuring alignment with the global communication priorities of Welthungerhilfe.
  • Social Media management incl.  preparing posts, pictures, short videos, and stories.
  • Support writing of success stories, newsletters, press releases, and any other external communication.
  • Support taking of pictures for projects and programs.
  • Support visibility and marketing events in the project area.
  • Assist in the execution of emergency response actions as directed by the country’s emergency response team

Your profile

  • Degree in Journalism, Communication, Political Science, Public Relations, International Relations, or a related field from a recognized university.
  • Minimum of 3-5 years of relevant experience, including working in media, journalism, advocacy, communications, or any related external relations context.
  • Previous experience working with an international NGO.
  • Excellent technical affinity for media contexts including knowledge of a wide range of multimedia, web, and digital tools.
  • Outstanding social media, news writing, and editing skills, plus strong interpersonal skills.
  • Excellent command of English (written, oral, comprehension) including highly developed editorial skills.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of graphic design and desktop design and publishing in particular using advanced professional software such as Adobe Photoshop, GIMP, and Adobe InDesign.
  • Demonstrated experience in producing high-quality Information, Education, and Communication (IEC) materials.
  • Proficiency in video editing using Adobe Premier Pro or other professional video editing programmes to produce impactful videos.
  • Excellent writing, proof-reading, and copy-editing skills to produce compelling communication documents.
  • Good photography and photo editing skills.
  • Teamwork and good communication skills
