The Electricity Supply Corporation of Malawi (ESCOM) Limited is incorporated under the Companies Act of the Laws of Malawi.
Its core business is to procure, transmit and distribute electric power in Malawi as well as manage System Market Operations and Single Buyer in Malawi. ESCOM Limited is, therefore, inviting applications from suitably qualified candidates to fill the following vacant Executive Management positions:
DIRECTOR OF PROJECTS AND DEVELOPMENT
Grade: ES3
Location: ESCOM Head Office, Blantyre
Directorate: Projects and Development
Reporting to : Chief Operations Officer
Responsible for : Projects Manager, Chief Social and Gender Inclusion Officer, Chief Safety, Health and Environment Officer
Purpose of the Job
To provide coordination and strategic leadership in the planning, execution and completion of infrastructure development and maintenance projects and allied services.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
- Preparing Strategic Business Plans and budgets for Projects and Development Directorate
- Ensuring that action plans are derived from the Corporation’s business plan
- Ensuring timely preparation of the operational and capital budgets
- Creating long and medium term strategic and operational plans for the Projects and Development Directorate.
- Faciltating development of action plans for each department of the Projects and Development Directorate derived from the Corporation’s business plans, and in liaison with other division heads and ensuring that material, human, and financial resources are available in the short, medium and long-terms for smooth implementation of such plans;
- Preparing the Directorate’s Revenue and Capital budgets to facilitate the translation into action of the requirements in the Corporate Strategic Plans
- Developing power planning and development strategies and policies in line with the overall business objectives of the Corporation;
- Developing and facilitating implementation of an Integrated Resource Plan;
- Developing project design, design standards and monitoring and evaluation strategies in line with the overall strategies;
- Developing plans to ensure environmentally sustainable development of power lines and installations;
- Continuously monitoring and evaluating implementation of action plans formulated by the Directorate’s departments based on the Directorate’s business plans and taking corrective action where appropriate;

Minimum Qualifications and Experience
- A Bachelors degree in Electrical Engineering, Economics, Development Economics, Renewable Energy, Sustainable Energy, or Energy Engineering and a Masters degree in any of the above technical fields or Business Administration/ Strategic Management from a recognized and accredited university.
- A minimum of ten (10) years of work experience in the field or industry, including at least five (5) years at a senior management level or higher.
- Applicants with experience in the power supply industry will have an added advantage.
APPOINTMENT AND REMUNERATION
The successful candidate shall be offered a negotiable performance-related contract for a period of three (3) years subject to renewal on satisfactory performance.
