Malawi Investment and Trade Centre (MITC)

A. INTRODUCTION

The Malawi Investment and Trade Centre (MITC) is a statutory corporation established under the Investment and Export Promotion Act of 2024. MITC is mandated to oromote and facilitate investment, exports promotion and facilitation, establishment of industrial parks and special economic zones to spur industrial growth. MITC also provides one-stop investment and trade facilitation services aimed at improving the ease of doing business in Malawi and supporting sustainable economic growth.

MITC is inviting applications from suitably qualified, experienced, and result-oriented Malawian professionals to fill the following Director-level positions tenable at its Head Office in Lilongwe on a three (3) year renewable performance-based contract.

Who should apply

MITC is looking for young to middle aged, dynamic and passionate, self starter candidates with hands on experience in local, regional and international trade and investment. The candidates should be able to interface with Chambers of Commerce and other business support institutions of various countries. They should be conversant with regional and international trade and investment protocols with strong negotiation skills.

DIRECTOR OF PLANNING AND RESEARCH (MITC2)

Reporting to : The Chief Executive Officer

Job Purpose

To lead planning, policy research, monitoring and evaluation, and institutional performance management functions in support of MITC’s strategic objectives.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage the Planning and Research Department.
  • Coordinate institutional strategic planning, annual work plans, and performance reporting
  • Conduct investment, trade, and economic research to support evidence-based decision making.
  • Monitor and evaluate MITC programmes and recommend improvements.
  • Provide policy analysis and recommendations on investment, trade, and business environment reforms.
  • Coordinate preparation of Board papers, institutional reports, and strategic documents.
  • Support budget planning processes in collaboration with relevant departments.
  • Maintain databases, research publications, and institutional knowledge management systems.
  • Supervise departmental staff and promote professional development.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Master’s Degree in Economics, Statistics, Development Studies, Public Policy, or related field
  • Minimum of ten (10) years’ relevant professional experience, including at least five (5) years at senior management level.
  • Strong analytical, research, planning, and report writing skills.
  • Experience in policy analysis, monitoring and evaluation, or strategic planning will be an added advantage.

Appointment and Remuneration

The successful candidate shall be offered a negotiable performance based contract for a period of three (3) years subject to renewal on satisfactory performance
