A. INTRODUCTION

The Malawi Investment and Trade Centre (MITC) is a statutory corporation established under the Investment and Export Promotion Act of 2024. MITC is mandated to oromote and facilitate investment, exports promotion and facilitation, establishment of industrial parks and special economic zones to spur industrial growth. MITC also provides one-stop investment and trade facilitation services aimed at improving the ease of doing business in Malawi and supporting sustainable economic growth.

MITC is inviting applications from suitably qualified, experienced, and result-oriented Malawian professionals to fill the following Director-level positions tenable at its Head Office in Lilongwe on a three (3) year renewable performance-based contract.

Who should apply

MITC is looking for young to middle aged, dynamic and passionate, self starter candidates with hands on experience in local, regional and international trade and investment. The candidates should be able to interface with Chambers of Commerce and other business support institutions of various countries. They should be conversant with regional and international trade and investment protocols with strong negotiation skills.

DIRECTOR OF INVESTMENT PROMOTION (MITC2)

Reporting to: the Chief Executive Officer

Job Purpose

To lead investment promotion and investor facilitation services aimed at attracting domestic and foreign direct investment into Malawi, including promotion of investment opportunities in the industrial parks and Special Economic Zones.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide strategic leadership and management of the Investment Promotion Department.
  • Develop and implement investment promotion strategies and investor outreach programmes.
  • Coordinate investment missions, conferences, forums, and promotional campaigns.
  • Facilitate investor inquiries, approvals, licensing processes, and aftercare services.
  • Promote Malawi as a preferred investment destination locally and internationally.
  • Coordinate stakeholder engagement with government agencies, private sector institutions, development partners, and investors.
  • Support investors in accessing land, utilities, permits, and other business facilitation services.
  • Monitor investment trends and recommend policy improvements to enhance the investment climate.
  • Supervise departmental staff, performance management, and capacity building programmes.
  • Prepare departmental plans, budgets, and reports.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Master’s Degree in Economics, Administration, Investment Business Promotion, Marketing, or related field.
  • Minimum of ten (10) years’ relevant professional experience, including at least five (5) years at senior management level.
  • Proven experience in investment promotion, business development, or investor facilitation.
  • Excellent communication, negotiation, networking, and stakeholder management skills.

Appointment and Remuneration

The successful candidate shall be offered a negotiable performance based contract for a period of three (3) years subject to renewal on satisfactory performance
