Electricity Supply Corporation of Malawi (ESCOM) Limited

The Electricity Supply Corporation of Malawi (ESCOM) Limited is incorporated under the Companies Act of the Laws of Malawi.

Its core business is to procure, transmit and distribute electric power in Malawi as well as manage System Market Operations and Single Buyer in Malawi. ESCOM Limited is, therefore, inviting applications from suitably qualified candidates to fill the following vacant Executive Management positions:

DIRECTOR OF HUMAN RESOURCES AND ADMINISTRATION
Grade: ES3
Location: ESCOM Head Office – Blantyre
Directorate: Human Resources and Administration
Reporting to: Chief Executive Officer
Responsible for : Human Resources Manager, Administration and Logistics Manager

Purpose of the Job

To provide strategic leadership to ensure provision of efficient administrative services and human resource management, planning and development.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Preparing Strategic Business Plans and budgets for Human Resources and Administration.
  2. Ensuring that action plans are derived from the Corporation’s business plan.
  3. Ensuring timely preparation of the operational and capital budgets.
  4. Formulating Human Resource and Administration Policies and Strategies in order to ensure that the directorate contributes effectively and efficiently to the goals of the Corporation.
  5. Implement the approved Directorate Budgets prudently and in line with the Corporation’s policies and practices.
  6. conducting of training needs analysis and develop training programmes for Corporation.
  7. Administering performance and reward management systems, processes and procedures for the Corporation.
  8. Developing and maintaining a robust human resource management information system for the Corporation to inform Human Resources management decisions and practices.
  9. Ensuring compliance with applicable Malawi Labour Laws and Good Human Resource Management
    Practices.
  10. Conducting recruitments, performance counseling, and disciplinary enquiry hearing for the Corporation and provide professional Human Resources advice in all cases.
  11. Preparing management reports on the performance of the human resource and administration functions.

  • Have excellent interpersonal skills and should be able to deal with a diverse work force.

  • Be of high integrity.

Minimum Qualifications and Experience

  • The ideal candidate should have a minimum qualification of a Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources Management, Public Administration, or Business Administration from a recognized and accredited University with a relevant Master’s degree from a recognized University.
  • Applicants must have ten (10) years’ experience of which at least five (5) years should be at senior management level. Applicants with experience in the power supply industry will have an added advantage.

APPOINTMENT AND REMUNERATION

The successful candidate shall be offered a negotiable performance-related contract for a period of three (3) years subject to renewal on satisfactory performance.
