Local Government Service Commission is inviting applications from suitably qualified Malawian candidates to fill the following vacant posts existing at Chikwawa District Council:

Post: Assistant Veterinary Officer
Grade: K/M8
Location : Dip Tanks / Vet Stations or EPA’s

Duties:

  1. To report and be responsible to the Area Veterinary Supervisor/ AEDC.
  2. To carry out general livestock extension services
  3. To conduct farmer trainings on animal health and production
  4. To conduct farmer group organization
  5. To visit livestock farmers regularly and hold meetings
  6. To treat sick animals
  7. To supervise AHSAs and Vet Scouts under his control
  8. To collect samples from sick animals and send them to the Laboratory for confirmation.
  9. To conduct postmortem on dead animals in order to find the cause at the death.
  10. To conduct Meat Inspection in rural slaughter slabs
  11. To carry out vaccinations of various animal diseases.
  12. To carry out an annual livestock census.
  13. To compile and submit monthly, quarterly, annual and any other report timely
  14. To sensitize farmers on revival of strategic dipping
  15. To supervise strategic dipping of animals in the revived dip tanks and provide proper guidance.
  16. To issue livestock movement permits to livestock owners
  17. To attend fortnightly training workshops at EPA.
  18. To mount on-farm demonstrations
  19. Recording and reporting of disease outbreaks to higher authorities
  20. Convey and interpret to farmers new livestock messages, technologies and interventions for early adoption
  21. To ensure safety of all government items under his/her custody.
  22. And any other duties as assigned by the controlling officer.

Qualification

Applicants must be in possession of Diploma in Animal Health / Science obtained from accredited institutions.
