Lotus Africa seeks to recruit a suitably qualified and motivated individual to the post of Acid Plant Mechanical Fitter at Kayelekera Uranium Mine in Karonga.
JOB PURPOSE:
The Fitter is responsible for the installation, maintenance, repair, and troubleshooting of mechanical equipment and systems to ensure operational efficiency and safety. This hands-on role involves working closely with supervisors, team leaders, and other trades to perform scheduled and breakdown maintenance in accordance with work orders and safety standards. The Fitter plays a key role in supporting plant reliability, minimizing equipment downtime, and contributing to a safe and productive work environment.
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Safety Incidents: Achieve a Zero number of safety incidents or near misses, with strict adherence to PPE and worksite safety protocols.
- Equipment Uptime: Maintain optimal operational availability of engineering systems.
- Planned vs Unplanned Maintenance Ratio: Target >80% planned maintenance.
- Job Card Completion Rate: Ensure 100% completion and proper documentation of job cards.
- Breakdown Response Time: Time taken to respond to and resolve breakdowns.
- Downtime Reduction: Decrease in unplanned downtime due to unwanted failures.
- Collaborate with supervisors to schedule routine and non-routine maintenance tasks.
- Review job specifications, work packages, drawings, and mechanical procedures prior to execution.
- Ensure availability of the correct tools as well as their fitness for use on all, measuring equipment, mechanical tools, hand tools, materials and correct PPE, before work begins.
- Identify potential failures and recommend long-term corrective solutions.
- Ensure that all mechanical equipment like, crushers, mills, conveyors, pumps, etc. meet long-term reliability and withstand operational conditions.
QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE
- MSCE Certificate or equivalent or Higher Education.
- Qualified Fitter Trade Certificate or equivalent from a recognised institution.
- Hydraulic experience would be an advantage.
- Minimum of 3 years’ trade experience in a fixed/acid plant.
- Must be able to speak, read and write English.
