Lotus Africa seeks to recruit a suitably qualified and motivated individual to the post of Acid Plant Instrumentation Technician at Kayelekera Uranium Mine in Karonga.
JOB PURPOSE:
The Instrument Technician is responsible for the installation, calibration, maintenance, and repair of instrumentation and control systems used in monitoring and controlling industrial processes. The role ensures the accuracy, reliability, and functionality of all field instruments, analysers, and control devices, supporting plant performance, safety, and compliance with standards and regulations.
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Safety Incidents: Achieve a Zero number of safety incidents or near misses, with strict adherence to PPE and worksite safety protocols.
- Equipment Uptime: Maintain optimal operational availability of engineering systems.
- Planned vs Unplanned Maintenance Ratio: Target >80% planned maintenance.
- Job Card Completion Rate: Ensure 100% completion and proper documentation of job cards.
- Breakdown Response Time: Time taken to respond to and resolve breakdowns.
- Downtime Reduction: Decrease in unplanned downtime due to unwanted failures.
- Quality of Workmanship: Inspection and testing results; preventing rework requirements.
- Code Compliance: Adherence to country applicable electrical codes and standards.
- Collaborate with supervisors to schedule routine and non-routine maintenance tasks.
- Review job specifications, work packages, drawings, and instrument procedures prior to execution.
- Perform preventive maintenance on field instrumentation, transmitters, control valves, and PLC/SCADA intertaces.
- Troubleshoot and repair instrumentation faults, including signal transmission, loop issues, and sensor failures.
QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE:
- MSCE Certificate or equivalent or Higher Education.
- Qualified Instrument Trade Certificate or equivalent from a recognised institution.
- Minimum of 3 years’ trade experience in a fixed/acid plant.
- Valid driver’s license.
- Must be able to speak, read and write English.
