St. John of God University (SJOGU) is a training institution of higher learning for health professionals in Malawi and its neighbouring countries since its inception in 2003. The University is a member of CHAM and operates under the proprietorship of Saint John of God Brothers of the Catholic church under the Mzuzu Diocese.

The University offers programmes that have been accredited by National council of Higher Education (NCHE) and approved by Nurses and Midwives Council of Malawi (NMCM) and Medical Council of Malawi (MCM). The University is committed to training highly qualified and dedicated healthcare professionals to be of service in the country and beyond. It strives to be a Centre of excellence in education, training, and research to enhance quality health services in Malawi and the sub-Saharan region.

Position Summary

Reporting to the Deputy Vice Chancellor, the University Registrar is the chief administrative officer responsible for providing strategic leadership and oversight of the University’s academic administration, governance, records management, student administration, and registry services. The Registrar serves as Secretary to the University Council, Senate, as assigned, and other statutory committees ensuring compliance with the University’s Statutes, policies, and applicable regulatory requirements.

Key Responsibilities

The successful candidate will be responsible for, among other duties:

  • Providing strategic leadership and management of the University’s Registry and administrative services.
  • Coordinating admissions, registration, examinations, graduation, and academic records management.
  • Serving as Secretary to the University Council, Senate, and other statutory committees as required
  • Advising the Vice Chancellor and University Management on matters relating to academic administration and governance.
  • Ensuring compliance with University policies, statutes, and regulatory requirements.
  • Coordinating the development, implementation, and review of academic policies and procedures
  • Overseeing the maintenance, security, and integrity of student and institutional records
  • Providing leadership in strategic planning, quality
  • Supervising Registry staff and promoting excellence in service delivery.
  • Performing any other duties assigned by the Vice Chancellor.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Master’s Degree in Higher Education Management, Business Administration, Human Resources Management, Public Administration a related discipline from a recognized university.
  • At least seven (7) years’ progressive administrative and academic management experience in a higher education institution, with at least three (3) years in a senior management position.
  • Demonstrable knowledge of university governance structures, academic administration, quality assurance systems, and higher education regulations.
  • Proven leadership, organizational, and strategic management skills
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, report writing, and stakeholder management skills.
  • Highlevels of integrity, protessionalism, confidentiality, and sound judgement.
  • Strong computer literacy and proficiency in modern information management systems.

Terms of Appointment

The successful candidate will be appointed on a three-year contract, renewable subject to mutual agreement and satisfactory performance. A competitive remuneration package, commensurate with the candidate’s qualifications and experience, will be offered. The appointment shall be governed by the University’s Terms and Conditions of Service.
