Alliance One Tobacco (Malaw) is seeking applications for the position of
ELECTRICAL SHIFT SUPERVISOR
Reporting directly to the Engineering Shift Controller, the successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring the safe, reliable, and efficient operation and maintenance of all electrical systems and equipment during shift operations.
Key responsibilities include:-
- Prepare and submit shift maintenance work plans in coordination with the Sectional Manager:
- Identify critical maintenance requirements, including materials, spares, and stock levels.
- Monitor and coordinate replenishment of high-consumption maintenance stock items.
- Plan, assign, and supervise both preventive and corrective maintenance activities.
- Ensure prompt and effective response to electrical faults and equipment breakdowns.
- Supervise inspection routines, condition monitoring activities, and shift-based checks.
- Review and follow up on artisan checklists, maintenance schedules, and condition monitoring reports.
- Inspect, verify, and formally sign off completed maintenance and electrical works.
- Supervise electrical installations, upgrades, and project-related activities in line with standards.
- Provide technical guidance to maintenance teams and support troubleshooting activities.
- Monitor and ensure optimal performance of electrical systems, including power factor correction and energy efficiency systems.
- Analyse recurring equipment failures and implement corrective actions to reduce downtime and improve reliability.
- Liaise closely with Production and Engineering teams to ensure optimal plant performance and availability:
- Compile and submit accurate daily shift reports and contribute to weekly maintenance reports.
- Ensure compliance with all safety, environmental, and statutory electrical regulations at all times.
Qualifications, Experience and Personal Attributes
- Diploma in Electrical Engineering or equivalent qualification.
- Minimum of 8 years’ post-qualification experience in a busy manufacturing or processing environment.
- Proven experience in electrical maintenance, installations, and fault-finding in an industrial setting.
- Strong supervisory and team leadership capabilities.
- Sound knowledge of electrical systems, safety standards, and maintenance best practices.
- Excellent problem-solving, planning, and organisational skills.
- Ability to work under pressure and manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
