VACANCY FOR THE POSITION OF DRIVER/OFFICE ASSISTANT 

JOB TITLE:             Driver/Office Assistant

BACKGROUND

Edukans is an International NGO specialized in education and training for underprivileged young people. Edukans believes that building a future starts with education as the basis and that good education is the key to a country’s sustainable development and hence its most durable investment. Since 2021, Edukans is implementing a strategic agenda (2021-2025) that covers basic education and skills for work programmes. Over this period Edukans sets out to “unleash the power of education” in its focus countries that include Malawi, Ethiopia, Kenya, Uganda & The Netherlands.

Edukans partnered with Voluntary Services Overseas (VSO), One Billion (OB), and Imagine Worldwide (IW) to implement the Building Education Foundations through Innovation and Technology (BEFIT) program. Edukans implements this program in Zomba, Mangochi and Machinga, and is inviting applications from suitable candidates to fill the above position.

JOB SUMMARY

Provide transportation of authorized personnel including translation of basic conversations from/to the local language, and/or delivery of various items/commodities following authorized routing and EDUKANS safety and security rules and regulations to ensure safe and efficient services. He/She will also be responsible for other office administrative/operational duties from time to time.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Will be responsible for providing reliable and safe driving services to Edukans staff, Stakeholders and visitors,
  • Ensuring the proper use and maintenance of Edukans vehicles, and supporting logistical operations as required.
  • Safely drive Edukans vehicles to assigned destinations, including field trips.
  • Transport staff to and from various locations for project and administrative purposes.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date vehicle logbooks for all trips and fuel usage.
  • Conduct routine checks on vehicles to ensure they are in good working condition.
  • Always ensure the cleanliness of assigned vehicles.
  • Observe all road traffic laws and Edukans transport policies.
  • Promptly report any mechanical faults, accidents, or incidents.
  • Provide logistical support during official Edukans events and activities.
  • Promptly report any accidents, mechanical faults, or incidents immediately to the relevant authorities.

QUALIFICATIONS/REQUIREMENTS 

  • A good Malawi School Certificate of Education (MSCE) with credits in English and Mathematics
  • Formal drivers training with a valid driver’s license with clean driving record will have an added advantage.
  • Those with a defensive Driving Certificate
  • Four or more years of work experience as a driver, preferably in an international organization with a demonstrated safe driving record.
  • Experience in driving a variety of makes and models of vehicles
  • Experience in defensive driving is desirable.
  • Knowledge of safety standards and safety equipment (e.g. fire extinguisher).

REMUNERATION

For this position, Edukans offers an attractive remuneration that includes salary, pension, medical scheme, and transport contribution (between office and work). However, the successful candidate should be ready for regular performance tracking and appraisal.
