mothers2mothers (m2m) is an Africa-based NGO that unlocks the potential of women to eliminate paediatric AIDS and create healthy families across ten sub-Saharan African countries. mam trains, employs, and helps empower women living with HIV to work as community healthcare workers in understaffed health centres and underserved communities. Through a peer-to-peer approach, these Mentor Mothers’ deliver a range of health services, advice, and support to women and their families. Started in Cape Town.
South Africa in 2001 with an initial focus on preventing mother-to-child transmission of HIV, m2m has innovated and built on its strengths and now provides family-centred support for a range of related health and social issues spanning pregnancy, birth, childhood, and adolescence. It also partners with governments and other NGOs on the adoption of its programme to spread the Mentor Mother Model and its benefits. m2m has a track record of scaling its services and proven impact. To date, m2m has reached over 11M women and children under two, and created more than 11,000 jobs for African women living with HIV.

M&E Officer
The role of M&E Officer is to assist in the M&E activities of m2m Malawi, with the aim of measuring program performance, improving quality of service delivery, strengthening staff capacity, and reporting program activities internally for strategic decision-making and for accountability to donors.
The M&E Officer will be reporting to the Senior M&E Officer and needs to have robust field experience, excellent team work skills, and deep understanding of PEPFAR data systems and other donor requirements.
This position will be based in Lilongwe.
Key Performance Areas:
Data Collection and Reporting
- Data collection and Conducting Routine Data Quality Audits to ensure data quality
- Capture monthly data in DHIS 2 and other reporting platforms and sign-oft on the 15th of each month.
- Follow up where there are missing data reporting, and implement data quality controls
- Generate weekly performance reports for Community Mentor Mothers
- Filing of Paper-based monthly reporting tools
- Print and share paper-based reporting tools to site staff and ensure availability at all times
- Troubleshooting – Actual phones and systems usage
Data Quality Management
- Provide a complete assessment of m2m m-health gadgets – Report any hardware and Software issues with the gadgets.
- Assist with the development and implementation of monitoring systems and tools to measure project progress
- Work closely with the M&E Lead to monitor progress towards reaching facility/ district level targets
- Conduct and support Data Triangulation to ensure data validity and completeness
- Respond to information access and retrieval requests from authorized staft.
Data Extraction
- Extract and share Dues and Dones at the beginning of each month and share with each Facility
- Troubleshooting – Reports submission vs completion times
Reports, Documentation & Representation
- Documentation of Success stories and Case Studies
- Participate in district data quality meetings and represent m2m at Technical Working Groups and other quality improvement forums at district and national level
- Maintain relationships with partners at the facility and district level.
- Collaborate with peer organizations at district level for improved program performance
Capacity Building
- Facilitate trainings, on job-mentorship and provide technical support to field staff on M&E related topics
- Provide line management and technical support to MãE
Qualifications and Experience:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Social/Health sciences, Epidemiology, Statistics, Demography or a related field
- Minimum of 3 years of specific M&E related work experience in the health sector/ or in the field of public health, including implementation and management of health ME systems; experience in HIV/AIDS, PMTCT/ RMNCH preferred
- Experience in data collection, data management and reporting for PEPFAR funded projects (HIV /ECD/OVC experience preferred)
- Sound experience in working in an M&E leadership role, responsible for conceptualization and systems design (experience designing M&E systems a distinct advantage)
- Proven track record in capacity building; experience training others on M&E systems (data collection, interpretation and analysis)
- Proven ability to analyse complex sets of information at multiple levels and to develop new approaches related to M&E in an integrated and participatory way
- Demonstrated experience with program reporting to donor agencies
- Experience managing staff including conducting performance reviews and ongoing support and supervision
Competencies:
- Excellent working knowledge of and experience in using MS Office suite and relevant database systems
- Competence in programming and analysis of data using programs such as SAS, SPSS, Epi-Into or others.
- Excellent communication skills and interpersonal skills, including the ability to communicate effectively with both technical and non-technical colleagues
- Demonstrated ability to think critically and creatively and to facilitate collective problem-solving
- Ability to work independently and cooperatively with diverse organizational units
- Proven ability to manage multiple tasks, work to strict deadlines and check in at key project points to ensure deliverables are aligned to organisational expectations
- Fluency in English as well as a local language is essential
- Experience in supporting implementation and online/in-person training of field staft/lay workers on data collection, data auditing, data cleaning, and reporting functions
- Ability to meet tight deadlines, manage multiple tasks, and work in a fast-paced environment
- Experience using a DHIS2 platform (preferred)
- Fluency Microsoft Office Applications: Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, Excel, and Access
- Excellent coordination, interpersonal, and teamwork skills
- Ability to rapidly interpret guidance, maintain alignment with multiple stakeholders/decision-makers, and implement practical/effective M&E solutions at the site level
- Ability to work independently, flexibly, and cooperatively with diverse and geographically dispersed staff and partners
