VACANCY ADVERT – Traffic Management Officer (TMO)

M1 Road Project

Location: M1 Road Project Site (Lilongwe and project corridor)
Employment Type: Full-time, project-based (until project completion)
Reporting to: Site Agent / Project Management Team

JOB DESCRIPTION

  1. On-site Traffic Organization & Control
  • Develop, implement and maintain temporary traffic management plans for construction zones.
  • Install, inspect, maintain and remove traffic signs, road markings, safety cones, warning lights and traffic control devices.
  • Direct vehicle and pedestrian flow, manage congestion and emergencies to reduce public disruption.
  1. Compliance & Safety Management
  • Ensure all traffic management measures comply with Malawi Road Traffic Act, project safety standards and client requirements.
  • Familiar with SADC traffic manuals.
  • Cooperate with HSE team to conduct traffic safety training, hazard inspection and accident prevention.
  1. Coordination
  • Coordinate with site engineers, HSE officers and community liaison officers.
  • Liaise with local traffic authorities for temporary traffic diversion approvals and permits.
  • Communicate with local communities regarding construction impacts and detour plans.
  1. Records & Reporting
  • Keep daily traffic control logs, traffic data and incident records.
  • Submit weekly and monthly traffic management reports.
  • Participate in traffic-related incident investigation and follow-up.

QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering, Traffic Engineering, Highway Engineering or related field.
  • Minimum 16 years of relevant working experience, at least 16 years in road project traffic management.
  • Prior experience in road projects funded by international agencies will be considered an advantage.
  • Certificates in road construction safety or traffic control are advantageous.
  • Valid driver’s license and capable of driving on site.
  • Familiar with local road conditions, traffic laws and community practices in Malawi.
  • Good English communication, problem-solving and pressure tolerance skills.
