Green Livelihoods (GL) is a sustainable green growth and agricultural enterprise and oil-seeds’ value-chains Development and Commercialization focused’ NGO that champions inclusive sustainable economic growth for smallholder farmers. GL got registered in 2006 in Malawi and its thematic areas of focus include: climate smart-agriculture, agribusiness enterprise development, natural resource and green enterprise development and environmental sustainability. Strategically, GL’s primary target beneficiaries are small-scale farmers with strategic focus on youth and women. Green Livelihoods is inviting qualified persons to fill existing vacancy within the organisation. Currently, GL is implementing four projects in six districts; GAIN project in Kasungu and Mzimba, BLEA project in Dowa, GROSS INCOME project in Mchinji and Bamboo project in Dowa, Salima and Lilongwe.
Green Livelihoods is looking for a highly motivated, hardworking and innovative Project Officer as a full-time employee who will be based in Salima (Bamboo Project). The officer will be reporting to the Project Coordinator.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
- Facilitate implementation of project deliverables
- Provide technical and administrative support of Project planned activities
- Collaborate with relevant stakeholders (Anchor Farmers, local leaders, Ministry of Forestry, Ministry of Trade, Ministry of Community Development, Youth Networks, Markets other NGOs) to ensure appropriate programming strategies are developed, refined and implemented for the target population (the beneficiaries)
- Act as a liaison between bamboo clubs, SMEs, FOs, Growth-Oriented Artisan Firms, Off-Takers, and market actors;
- Foster sustainable business relationships to promote economic growth and stability in the nature-agricultural sector;
- Collaborate with financial institutions and development partners to improve access to capital for SMEs and FOs;
- Support the grassroots-level creation of Memoranda of Understanding (MOUs), partnership agreements, and other collaborative frameworks to formalize stakeholder relationships;
- Collaborate with BDS Providers to part-deliver Business Plans, Business Trainings, Growth Plans etc. and prepare a Technical Business Scorecard for each individual bamboo project value chain supported clubs.
- Co-design and implement market access strategies tailored to selected value chains, including bamboo, honey, and related skills-development, Processes document best practices/case studies and other relevant information as agreed on the work plan.
- Serving as a conduit for information sharing between stakeholders and program management
- Support and supervise the project community business agents (CBAs), and skilled local artisans.
- Collecting data and reporting to the M&E Lead Specialist
- Facilitate mobilization and capacity building/trainings for the bamboo artisans on bamboo products skills development.
- Co-develop and roll out training programs in business management and entrepreneurship;
- Working with smallholder farmers, large-scale plantations, artisans, and market actors to create a cohesive and sustainable bamboo industry.
- Facilitate additional beneficiary selection in collaboration with Government/-Bamboo staff and community leaders.
- Undertake value chain analysis and facilitate market linkages and link beneficiaries with other projects as applicable.
- Be responsible for management of the project budget expenditure levels in accordance with the acceptable limits and standards as per approved budget
- Ensure timely production of weekly, monthly, and quarterly progress reports for the running projects
Required Qualifications and Experience
- A Bachelor’s Degree in any of the following fields is required: Forestry Products Development and Management, Natural Resource-Based Enterprise Development and Business Management, Agribusiness, Green Entrepreneurship, Agribusiness Management, or a related discipline. Candidates with additional qualifications—such as diplomas or certificates—and relevant experience in technical or natural resource-based craftsmanship, particularly within the bamboo value chain, will have an added advantage.
- 5-7 years’ relevant work experience and should demonstrate Innovative, Private Sector plus Business development t and Growth mentality mindedness
- Must possess a valid Motorcycle driving license
- A solid understanding of knowledge management principles, practices, tools and products.
- Experience in designing, planning and implementing knowledge management-related initiatives, coordinating/collaborating with other teams and executive/facilitating programmes and events involving knowledge management or learning.
- Experience in computer-based data management systems.
- Good understanding of key aspects of development work, including environment, livelihood security and integration of disaster mitigation and climate change response.
