Workforce Recruitment Services seeks to recruit for the following position on behalf of our international client. The position is tenable in Blantyre.

GENERAL MANAGER

Reporting to:  Chief Commercial Officer and Chief Operating Officer

Fundamental Purpose:

 The Position has 2 primary responsibilities;

  • Within the context of the Company’s Strategy and contractual relationship with the local customer, manage the local operation and ensure/maintain proper set-up of local operating infrastructure within budget and within agreed project timescales.
  • Run and manage the daily operation of the company ensuring delivery of services in compliance with contractual obligations towards local customers and stakeholders. This involves running the local organization of experienced employees operating within the company’s business processes and operating systems.
  • Run a substantial business by defining and gaining agreement to the business plans and implementing the Strategy to develop additional business opportunities within the region by leveraging the company’s products and solutions portfolio, existing project/customer relationships and bringing additional profitable business.

Key Accountabilities:

  • General Management of the entity that has been assigned
  • Management of all local operational and functional aspects through function leaders within matrix organisation
  • Deployment of any company systems as well as the cascading of all policies and ensure compliance of the organization
  • Planning, budgeting, P&L and other KPIs, cash flow forecast
  • Performance, organization, resources and assets
  • Customer relationship:
    – Ensure the Quality of Service rendered to the customer
    – Supervise resolutions of customer escalations
    – Supervise customer service improvement
  • Company’s image and compliance in the country
  • Yearly and long-term sales objectives based on existing and future projects / contracts as well as renewals, with the support of the SIS Sales organization
  • Consolidate reporting of its entity towards CCO, COO and Functions Heads
  • Manage all EHS + Security + all CSR (Corporate Social Resp.) aspects
  • Manage HR with support of Group HR, employee relations and industrial relations
  • Ensure responsibility for risk, crisis, business continuity management in accordance with the Company’s policies and regulations.

Special features and requirements of the Position:

This role requires a capable and experienced General Manager with at least 5 years senior level experience and a solid project delivery background. The successful candidate will have the capacity to identify critical business needs and the leadership skills to put in place the resources, processes and measures to ensure business goals are met. It is fundamental that the candidate shows strong motivation in willing to build and develop relationship with local organizations, allowing strengthening the link with local partners.

The ability and energy to plan long term growth whilst leading and delivering on-going business needs is critical. Winning additional business requires a strong customer facing orientation likely coupled with a sales and marketing orientation.

The role has a strong external face to existing and new customers. Thus the individual has to have a high level of stature, experience and credibility in operating at a senior level. He/she must also be able to demonstrate a track record of success in building and gaining profitable business in a confidential (and political/governmental) environment.

Internally, the role has to manage the interface of shared resources from the Company’s Headquarters in Switzerland, maintain the capability of the local team, succession planning and create a strong local network.

This will require a combination of excellent interpersonal skills, a coaching mind-set, a high level of integrity and strong performance orientation which he/she must be able to instil into all those who support the business.

The environment of the business is technical and complex, requiring speed and agility to deliver customer solutions, a strong process and project mind-set and the ability to integrate cross functional activities to deliver customer requirements.

Education:

  • University degree in business or technology

Professional experience:

  • Minimum 5-10 years in a similar position or experience in the field of security printing industry, with commercial, operational and administrative management knowledge and capability to run an industrial entity and, if applicable, develop business for related countries.
  • Spoken and written English is required, any additional local language as an asset, based on the area or responsibility.
