It builds, owns, and operates telecom passive infrastructure, providing services to mobile network operators. Helios Towers currently operates in 8 markets in Africa and Oman in the Middle East.

OVERVIEW:

As an Engineering Manager within the Delivery & Technology function, you will be stationed in Lilongwe, responsible for ensuring the correct functioning, savings, and efficiency of all technology equipment deployed on telecommunications sites. Reporting to the Head of Performance Engineering, you will lead the Site Performance Analyst (SPA) team, ensuring optimal network performance and adherence to best engineering practices.

ROLE RESPONSIBILITIES:

Operational Delivery:

  • Serve as the primary contact for all engineering-related questions within HT Malawi, including site design approvals and operational practices.
  • Lead the SPA teams to maximize network efficiency and robustness, identifying improvement opportunities and driving network performance.
  • Collaborate with Group Engineering and Projects Teams to ensure compliance with HT and industry technical standards.
  • Conduct due diligence with local suppliers and contractors to ensure they meet contractual performance standards.
  • Oversee and ensure technical performance of all power solutions deployed on sites, including renewable energy solutions.
  • Implement and provide feedback on technical and OPEX performance of new technology and project initiatives.
  • Approve project designs, ensuring completion within technical specifications as part of the Operational Acceptance process.
  • Enforce best practice levels for all technical activities on-site.
  • Conduct random and planned technical audits to ensure compliance with technical and HSE requirements, including electrical safety components.

  • Ensure health, safety, and environmental best practices in the workplace and on-site.
  • Conduct quality control inspections and maintain high standards.
  • Identify potential hazards and suggest improvements to working processes.
  • Conduct site inspections and ensure the safety of equipment.
  • Advise staff and partners on best working practices.
  • Requirements for the Role:

Education:

  • Degree in Electrical/Mechanical Engineering or related fields.

Experience:

  • Minimum of 10 years in an Electrical/Mechanical environment.
  • At least 3 years in a supervisory role.
  • Minimum 5 years of hands-on experience with AC & DC power solutions, hybrid, solar, and/or wind solutions, including diagnostics and troubleshooting.
  • Exposure to and understanding of internationally acceptable power practices.
  • Demonstrated effective management of field-based teams.

Certification, Skills, and Competencies:

  • Expertise in building and supporting teams and driving continuous change and innovation.
  • Strong skills in effective communication, operational excellence, and efficiency.
  • Proven ability in Opex and Capex optimization, quality assurance, and personnel management.
  • Attention to detail, analytical thinking, and complex problem-solving skills.
  • Proficiency in SHEQ implementation on-site
