The Lilongwe City Council is inviting suitably qualified and experienced Malawians to fill the following vacant post on a fixed 24-month term.

JOB PURPOSE
To manage the flow of information between Lilongwe City Council, the media, the public, and other stakeholders. The position involves developing and implementing communication strategies, managing media relations, producing information materials, and managing LCC’s public image to promote transparency, accountability, and citizen engagement in Council service delivery.
KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Planning and hosting press conferences and media briefings to announce major news or address crises.
- Preparing press releases, speeches, articles, social media posts, and other materials for public consumption.
- Developing strategies and procedures for working effectively with the media.
- Maintaining good working relationships with media organizations.
- Working with various teams within the Council to organize and host public events and promotions.
- Planning and executing public engagement events such as public meetings and town hall discussions to engage residents and other stakeholders.
- Responding to inquiries and concerns from residents and stakeholders in a timely and professional manner.
- Developing and maintaining relationships with key stakeholders, such as community leaders, businesses, and other organizations, to ensure that council communication efforts are effective and responsive to community needs.
- Performing any other relevant duties as assigned from time to time.
SKILLS AND COMPETENCIES
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong understanding of the media, including social media.
- Organized and detail-oriented work ethic.
- Great public speaking and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to travel on short notice and work during odd hours
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE
- Bachelor’s degree in Mass Communications, Public Relations, Journalism, or a related field.
- Minimum of 2 years’ relevant experience in a public relations role.
- Experience in Public sector communication is an added advantage
