The Lilongwe City Council is inviting suitably qualified and experienced Malawians to fill the following vacant posts on a fixed 24-month term.

JOB PURPOSE

Conduct land and engineering surveys; prepare accurate survey plans and maps; establish and re-establish property boundaries; and provide technical survey services to support land administration, urban planning, infrastructure development, and land management within Lilongwe City.

KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

• Conduct cadastral, topographic, engineering, and boundary surveys for Lilongwe City Council.
• Demarcate plots and install or replace survey beacons.
• Prepare survey plans, maps, sketches, and legal descriptions.
• Collect, analyse, and interpret survey data using GPS, Total Stations, GIS, and other surveying equipment.
• Verify property boundaries and resolve boundary disputes where required.
• Survey roads, drainage systems, public spaces, and other municipal infrastructure.
• Maintain accurate survey records and databases.
• Prepare timely progress reports on survey works and technical reports.
• Ensure compliance with the Land Survey Act, local government regulations, and professional standards.
• Provide technical advice to planners, engineers, and other council departments.
• Maintain, take care of, and calibrate surveying equipment.
• Perform any other duties assigned by management.

SKILLS AND COMPETENCIES

• Proficiency in GPS, Total Station, AutoCAD, GIS, and survey software.
• Good analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Strong communication and report-writing skills.
• Knowledge of land laws and surveying regulations.
• High level of integrity and attention to detail.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
• Good organizational and time-management skills.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCES

• Bachelor’s Degree in Land Surveying, Geomatics, or a related field from a recognized institution.
• Registration with the Surveyors Institute of Malawi (SIM) is mandatory.
• Minimum of 2 years’ relevant experience in land surveying, cadastral surveys, GIS, or engineering surveys.
• Experience in local government or public sector work is an added advantage.
