JOB OPPORTUNITY

The Centre for Social Concern (CfSC) is a faith based and non-profit making organisation established in 2002 by the Missionaries of Africa (White Fathers). The CfSC aims at bringing about social justice in the Malawian society through evidence based research. Its mission is to foster a critical reflection on issues of social concern based on faith. The Centre for Social is currently implementation a project called: Creating Effective Spaces for Inter-Religious Dialogue to break the inter-generational transmission of conflicts among faith groups in Mangochi District.” To effectively implement and respond to the objectives of the project, the Centre for Social Concern is looking for a suitably qualified and interested candidate to fill the following position tenable in Mangochi.

Position: Social Cohesion Project Officer – Tenable in Mangochi District

This is a non-established post to run for one year. The officer will report to the programme Manager, Head Office Lilongwe. This position seeks to build and sustain tolerance and peaceful co-existence between Muslims and Christians and other ethno-religious and political groups.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Plan and design innovative interventions to meet the project’s objectives
  • Support community based conflict prevention and resolution strategies
  • Carry out on going research on the situation of interfaith relations in the district
  • Carry out sensitisation awareness campaigns on the need to live together peacefully irrespective of people’s differences
  • Organise and facilitate capacity building interventions on dialogue and conflict management
  • Provide technical support to the Local Advisory Committee (LAC) and District Peace and Unity Committee (DPUC)
  • Actively participate in resource mobilisation campaign for the CfSC programme
  • Promote partnerships on peace and security around the district
  • Carry out other duties as may be determined by management from time to time.

Required Qualifications and Expertise

  • A graduate in social science or international relations related to the position in question
  • At least 2 years programming experience in peace and security
  • Very good understanding of the theory of change and the results framework of the project
  • Practical experience of the computer packages.
