Malawi Communications Regulatory Authority (MACRA)
The Malawi Communications Regulatory Authority (MACRA) is a statutory body established under the Communications Act, 1998 to regulate the provision of services in the communications sector in Malawi, comprising telecommunications, postal and broadcasting.
MACRA is inviting suitable persons to apply for the following vacant positions tenable at its Blantyre Head Office.
TYPE APPROVAL OFFICER
Purpose of the Job:
To implement and enforce Type Approval regime by ensuring that all electronic communications equipment entering and circulating within Malawi complies with prescribed technical standards, safety require-ments, and regulatory obligations.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Evaluate applications for type approval of ICT/telecommunication equip-ment.
- Review technical documentation including RF characteristics, EMC compliance, SAR/EMF reports, and interoperability standards.
- Verify compliance with applicable international standards (e.g., ITU, ETSI, IEC).
- Recommend approval, rejection, or conditional approval of equipment.
- Maintain an updated registry/database of approved equipment.
- Conduct routine and ad hoc market surveillance inspections.
- Support development and operationalization of Type Approval labelling
systems - Provide technical input into policy, regulatory reviews, and management reports related to Type Approval.
Minimum Education Qualifications and Experience
- Bachelor of Science degree in any of the following: Electrical and Electronics Engineering, Telecommunication Engineering, Computer Engineering or in a related field.
- Two (2) years’ experience working in the telecommunication sector.
