Mighty Wanderers Football Club (2021) Limited, as part of its commercialization and growth agenda, seeks to recruit a dynamic, strategic, and business-minded professional to serve as Chief Executive Officer (CEO) The successful candidate will be responsible for driving the Club’s transformation into a commercially, viable and self-sustaining institution, while strengthening its competitiveness both locally and within the region. Position Details
Job Title: Chief Executive Officer
Location: Club House, Lali Lubani Road, Chichiri – Blantyre
Reports To: Board Chairman
Responsible For: Overall Operations of Mighty Wanderers Football Club (2021) Limited
Internal Liaison: Board of Directors, Secretariat Staff, Technical Team, Players, and Supporters Contract Type: Fixed-Term Contract
Role Summary
The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) will be responsible for managing and overseeing the overall operations of Mighty Wanderers Football Club (2021) Limited. The role provides strategic leadership, ensures sporting and commercial viability, and oversees the effective implementation of Board resolutions. The CEO will supervise the Club Secretariat, lead stakeholder engagement, and ensure compliance with football regulations and statutory requirements. The CEO will report directly to the Board of Directors.
Key Responsibilities
Strategic Leadership
- Lead the Club and ensure effective delivery of its strategic and business plan
- Implement the strategic direction approved by the Board
- Develop and monitor operational plans aligned with Club objectives
- Align football performance goals with financial sustainability
- Drive growth, brand positioning, and competitiveness
2. Financial Management
- Develop and oversee the Club’s annual budget
- Monitor budget performance and financial controls
- Ensure financial sustainability and responsible cost management
- Oversee key revenue streams including:
- Sponsorships and partnerships
- Matchday revenue
- Merchandising
- Broadcasting and commercial income
- Approve major expenditures in line with Board approvals
3. Commercial & Business Development
- Lead commercial partnerships and sponsorship negotiations
- Expand the Club’s brand visibility and fan engagement
- Oversee marketing, media, and communications functions
- Identify new revenue opportunities including academies, events, and tours
4. Operations & Secretariat Management
- Supervise operations of the Secretariat, including management team and technical departments
- Develop operating procedures for efficient functioning of the Club
- Develop key performance indicators (KPls) for staff and departments
- Ensure timely implementation of Board decisions
- Oversee Club facilities and operational effectiveness
5. Football Operations Oversight
- Oversee player registration, contracts, transfers, and loan agreements
- Ensure compliance with FIFA Transfer Matching System (TMS) requirements
- Maintain player disciplinary records and manage appeals where necessary
- Work closely with the Technical Director and Technical Bench
- Ensure alignment between sporting objectives and financial sustainability
6. Governance & Compliance
- Ensure compliance with:
- Football Association of Malawi (FAM) regulations
- Super League requirements
- FIFA and CAF regulations
- Statutory and employment laws
- Oversee annual Club licensing certification
- Maintain Club records and governance documentation
- Uphold ethical standards and transparency
7. Stakeholder Management
- Serve as the main link between the Board, management, and stakeholders
- Protect and enhance the Club’s reputation
- Promote and maintain relationships with:
- Football Association of Malawi (FAM)
- Super League of Malawi
- Sponsors and partners
- Local and international stakeholders
- Supporters and media
8. Leadership & Organizational Management
- Lead and manage senior staff across departments
- Build a high-performance organizational culture
- Oversee staffing, structure, and internal systems
- Ensure accountability and performance management
9. Infrastructure & Club Development
- Oversee stadium operations and infrastructure development
- Support development of training facilities and youth academy
- Drive long-term capital projects and Club growth initiatives
10. Board & Governance Responsibilities
- Serve as Secretary to the Board
- Arrange Board meetings in consultation with the Chairperson
- Prepare and maintain Board records and documentation
- Implement Board resolutions
11. Risk & Crisis Management
- Manage operational, financial, and reputational risks
- Provide leadership during crises
- Ensure business continuity and stability
12. Other Responsibilities
- Perform any other duties as assigned by the Board of Directors

Qualifications and Experience
To be considered for this role, applicants must meet the following requirements:
- A First Degree in Business Administration, Commercial Studies, Marketing, Sports Management, or a related field. A Master of Business Administration (MBA) or equivalent postgraduate qualification will be an added advantage but is not mandatory.
- Demonstrated passion for and commitment to Mighty Wanderers Football Club.
- Proven experience in senior management at a strategic level.
- Experience in football administration or sports management will be an added advantage.
- A minimum of five (5) years’ relevant professional experience in a senior leadership or management role.

- Strong computer literacy, with proficiency in Microsott Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Microsoft Project
- Familiarity with football analysis software and performance management systems
- Strong financial management and commercial acumen
- Understanding of football goverance, administration, and development
- Knowledge of regulations and statutes govering football, including those of FAM, CAF, and FIFA
- Ability to implement risk management procedures across football operations, including health and safety of staff, guests, and supporters
