AREA FORESTRY SUPERVISOR

A job opportunity has arisen at Pyxus Agriculture Limited for the position of Area Forestry Supervisor. The successful candidate will report to the Forestry Manager.

Job Summary

The Area Forestry Supervisor will be responsible for managing forestry plantations, timber harvesting and wood processing together with the production and supply of various forest products through a team of forestry technicians.

Key responsibilities include (but are not limited to):

• Consistently attain the economic, environmental, social and governance targets of the forest area.
• Manage the human, physical, biological and financial resources of the forest area.
• Compile and review forest management & other plans to guide the implementation of forestry activities.
• Manage and monitor afforestation and silvicultural operations across plantations.
• Ensure all operations adhere to SHEQ, certification standards, budgets and timelines.
• Plan, lead and control internal and external timber harvesting, wood sourcing and transport operations.
• Manage the wood production and value addition operations of the forest area.
• Coordinate the delivery of forest products to customers.
• Ensure forests are protected from fires and all other threats.
• Manage nurseries for internal planting, smallholder seedling supply and commercial sales.
• Facilitate third-party audits and coordinating with government on forestry concessions.
• Ensure a harassment-free workplace and act as a point of contact for welfare concerns.

Qualifications, Experience, Skills and Knowledge:

• Bachelor’s or Diploma in Forestry.
• Minimum of 3 years’ relevant experience in commercial forestry setting.
• Certification as a fire boss or experience in Integrated Fire Risk Management.
• Certification industry forest management chain of custody
• Knowledge and experience of FSC, PEFC, SPEQCS, MMM, SCT, PEEP.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook).
• Strong financial management skills
• Effective people management skills.
• Good communication and inter-personal skills.
• Valid light motor vehicle driving licence
