The Electricity Supply Corporation of Malawi (ESCOM) Limited is incorporated under the Companies Act (Chapter 46:03 of the Laws of Malawi). Its core business is to procure, transmit and distribute electric power in Malawi as well as manage System Market Operations and Single Buyer licensees in Malawi. ESCOM is inviting applications from suitably qualified candidates to fill the following vacant positions currently existing within the Corporation:
SUBSTATIONS CONTROL TECHNICIAN (3 Positions)
Grade: ES10
Location: New Bwengu, Blantyre West, Mapanga
Supervised by: Senior substation Technician (control)
Tenure: Permanent
Purpose of the Job
To facilitate the provision of quality and standard electricity supply to the nation all the time
Key Duties and Responsibilities
- Monitoring and controlling voltages and loads on the system
- Recording system data hourly
- Checking and reporting defects to supervisors
- Ensuring compliance with safety procedures
- Carrying out switching operations during outages and faults times
- Training newly recruited control technicians in readiness for senior authorization test
- Assisting in preparing station monthly reports

- Impeccable skills in Microsoft office packages
- Effective verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to manage time effectively in a high pressure-setting
- Excellent interpersonal skills
- Critical thinking and assertiveness abilities
- The ability to operate effectively both independently and as part of team
Minimum Qualifications and Experience
- Diploma in Electrical Engineering
- 2-years’ work experience in the power industry/field
