Insurance Association of Malawi (IAM)
The Insurance Association of Malawi (IAM) is a registered Trust of the member organisations comprising all the general insurance companies, a reinsurance company, and a reinsurance broking company. The Association was established in the year 1988 to advance the common interest of its members and thus ensure advancement of the General Insurance profession in Malawi.
IAM is looking for suitably qualified candidate to fill the post of Technical Manager to be based at the association’s offices in Blantyre.

Job Purpose:
The Technical Manager will be responsible for ensuring that the insurance operations within the Insurance Association of Malawi (IAM) adhere to industry standards, regulations, and best practices. This role involves providing technical guidance to member insurance companies, overseeing risk management practices, and ensuring the smooth implementation of insurance products and policies. The Technical Manager will also serve as a key point of contact for technical queries and collaborations with stakeholders, including regulatory bodies and industry partners.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide guidance on underwriting, claims processing, and policy administration, ensuring compliance with industry standards and regulations.
- Oversee the development of risk management strategies and advise on risk mitigation measures for IAM and member companies.
- Support the creation and documentation of new insurance products and services, aligning with market needs and regulatory requirements.
- Organize training programs on technical insurance topics for IAM members and share industry knowledge.
- Manage the collection and analysis of industry data, preparing technical reports for IAM leadership.
- Prepare technical reports and presentations for the IAM leadership and member companies.
- Ensure adherence to regulatory directives and provide technical support during audits and inspections.
- Implement quality assurance measures to improve insurance operations and performance within member companies.
- Liaise with regulatory bodies, such as the Reserve Bank of Malawi, on technical matters affecting the insurance industry.
- Represent IAM in technical discussions, forums, and committees at the national and regional levels.
- Collaborate with other industry associations, academic institutions, and experts to enhance technical capacity within the insurance sector
- To be attending some meetings on behalf of the trustees
- Leading and supervising all outsourced functions
- Working hand in hand with the secretaries.
Qualifications and experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration. A master’s degree or professional qualifications (e.g., ACIl, ANZIIF, IISA) would be an advantage.
- A minimum of 5 years of experience in the technical or Managerial role in insurance industry.
- Strong understanding of insurance regulations, underwriting, claims management, and risk assessment.
- Experience in product development and market research within the insurance sector.
- Excellent communication, leadership, and stakeholder management skills.
