Job Title: Web Developer
Location: Lilongwe, Malawi (Remote options possible)
Job Type: Contract (3-6 months). Potential for permanent engagement

Introduction:
We are looking for a highly skilled and motivated Web Developer to join our team to help build a platform for a new venture. This is a unique opportunity to contribute to an innovative and fast-paced project ready to shake up the FMCG landscape in Malawi.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop and maintain a functional website and/or application.
  • Build and implement a database.
  • Implement a user-friendly interface
  • Collaborate closely with designers, business analysts, and other team members to ensure the platform meets the functional requirements.
  • Ensure the platform is responsive, fast, and scalable to accommodate growing user needs.
  • Conduct testing, debug issues, and provide support for maintenance and optimization.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Software Engineering, Web Development or Web Design or related fields.
  • Proven experience in web development with expertise in front-end and back-end technologies (HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and relevant frameworks).
  • Proficiency in database management systems (e.g., MySQL, MongoDB, PostgreSQL).
  • Familiarity with content management systems (e.g., WordPress, Joomla, Shopify) is a plus.
  • Strong knowledge of API integration.
  • Experience with eCommerce platforms and/or websites is an advantage.
  • Ability to write clean, maintainable code and follow best practices.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work independently and communicate effectively in a remote team environment.

Additional Skills:

While the degree is important, it’s also crucial for the developer to have hands-on experience with the following specific technologies:

  • Front-end development (e.g., HTML, CSS, JavaScript, frameworks like React or Angular)
  • Back-end development (e.g., Node.js, PHP, Python)
  • Database management (e.g., MySQL, MongoDB)
  • API integration
  • E-commerce platform development

Note

Practical experience (not necessarily gained through formal employment) is a requirement for this role. Those that can demonstrate successful delivery of previous projects will have a great advantage. Details of the successful projects will have to be provided during the application.
