The Opportunity

Save the Children is inviting applications from suitably qualified personnel to fill the position of Health, Nutrition &  and Community Mobilization Technical Coordinator (HN-CM). As a key member, the role holder will work closely with Senior Technical Advisors for Health and Nutrition as well as Social Behavior Change, to support the design and delivery of Save the Children’s norm shifting health and nutrition programs in Malawi. In addition, s/he will be responsible for planning, implementation, monitoring and reporting of health and nutrition coupled with community mobilization activities in the Abwenzi a Ana project in Ntcheu and as guided by the program goals, objectives and implementation frameworks. Under the guidance of the Senior Technical Advisors, the HN-CM Technical Coordinator will provide technical assistance to the District Health Management Teams, Health Facilities and Communities to implement and monitor Abwenzi a Ana project and other HN-CM activities in the district and where assigned. The HNCM Technical Coordinator will focus on strengthening capacity of the health system and community mobilization at district,health facility and community level and enable sustainable delivery of the Abwenzi a Ana Project interventions and services. He/she will also be responsible for establishing and strengthening good coordinationwith government leadership structures including the entire District Health Teams, District Administration and other Local Government structures.

The NHCM Technical Coordinator will report to the Project Manager Abwenzi A Ana with dotted lines to Senior Technical Adviser Health and Nutrition and Technical Adviser Social Behavior Change. S/he will work closely with Project Facilitators,  Community volunteers, as well as with other Technical Coordinators and other program team members from Abwenzi a Ana project, including government and implementing partners. H/she will support implementation and sustainability efforts in transitioning ownership of the Abwenzi a Ana project to the  government in Ntcheu.

In the event of a major humanitarian emergency, the role holder will be expected to work outside the normal role profile and be able to vary working hours accordingly.

In order to be successful, you will bring/have: 

  • A minimum of a Bachelors degree in Nursing, Health Sciences, Public Health, BSc in Community Nursing or related field orequivalent qualifications.
  • A minimum of 4 years’ experience in working in Public Health
  • At least three years’ work experience gained through supporting implementation of health programs and with proven ability to coordinate activities of different stakeholders at district and or sub-district Prior experience in/understanding of referral networks and health emergency transportation/transfer projects is an added advantage.
  • Experience in working communities with good knowledge of the public health system and structures. Understanding of key Maternal Newborn and Child Health Issues, interventions and challenges in Malawi as well as participatory community engagement approaches is an added advantage,
  • Strong experience in coordinating with districts, health facilities and mobilizing communities while working with partners and other stakeholders.
  • Ability to work effectively with different program partners and stakeholders to achieve collective program targets and goals
  • Ability to identify and manage program risks, proactively addressing or reporting issues before they affect program performance and stakeholder relationships
  • Ability to make linkages between interventions/programs.
  • Previous experience  in using CAC (Community Action Cycle) in mobilizing communities.
