St Columba CCAP is a Christ centered Church in Blantyre Synod with a population of about 4,000 members located in Njamba near Njamba Freedom Park in Blantyre.
The Church is looking for persons with relevant eclucation background, experience and interpersonal skills to fill the above Position:
POSITION: ACCOUNTANT
REPORTING TO : THE CONGREGATION TREASURER
SUPERVISES: ASSISTANT ACCOUNTANT
A. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
1) Budgeting and Forecasting
- Prepare annual budgets for the Congregation and for all ministries and committees
- Prepare monthly and quarterly, management accounts, monitor performance of the budgets for ministries and committees with appropriate variance analysis and advise users on the prudent and efficient use of financial resources
2) Financial Record Keeping and Reporting
- Oversee the accurate posting of accounting transactions in the accounting system
- Keep and maintain appropriate accounting records in manner that they are easy to retrieve
- Ensure issuance of official receipts for offerings, donations and other contributions and bank the proceeds in appropriate bank accounts
- Check the correctness and completeness of payment vouchers before authorisation
- Keep and maintain the Fixed Asset Register
- Prepare consolidated draft Fund Accountability Statements for the Church and for all ministries and committees
- Reconcile Sub-Ledgers to the General Ledger and prepare month end and year-end adjustment journals
3) Compliance and Audit
- Comply with the financial policies and procedures, procurement procedures, tax laws, pension laws and all other relevant laws
- Coordinate and cooperate with both internal and external auditors
4. Banking and Cash Management
- Maintain a register of bank accounts and authorised signatories
- Project and monitor monthly cash flow and advise the Congregation Treasurer of any foreseen constraints
- Initiate electronic funds transfer on the online bank platform
- Check and approve monthly bank reconciliation
5. Leadership and Staff
- Provide leadership to accounting staff and provide supportive supervision to subordinates
- Prepare monthly payroll for the church employees.
B) EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND ATTRIBUTES
- High integrity, reliable and trustworthy individual who is a committed Christian
- Minimum of a Diploma in Accounting with good technical knowledge of Accounting for not for profit organisations.
- At least a minimum of 5 years’ experience in a similar position
- Demonstrated experience in use of accounting software
- Strong leadership skills and a team builder Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Attention to detail and highly analytical to explain complex financial information to clergy and other church leaders.
