Malawi Catering Services Limited wishes to invite applications from suitably qualified individuals of Malawian origin to fill the following vacant position tenable at Mpale Cultural Village in Mangochi.

Operations Executive – Mpale Cultural Village (1 position)

Duties

Reporting to the Operations Manager, your duties shall include, but not limited to:

  1. Running Maple Cultural Village in such a manner as to meet the various performance targets, most importantly, the profitability of the business;
  2. Ensuring that Mpale Cultural Village is heavily and widely marketed for different offered products within and/or outside the country.
  3. Setting employees’ objectives and performance targets and monitoring the employees’ performance via regular evaluation meetings designed to point out strong as well as weak, and putting in place mechanisms for continual improvement in performance;
  4. Instilling and maintaining among all employees a keen sense of and commitment to good and sound customer-centric behavior;
  5. Maintaining a close watch on the soundness of operations to ensure conformity to laid down internally and externally imposed standards (operational and/or legal/statutory) and sustainability of the business;
  6. Resolving emerging people and/or operational issues which may have a detrimental effect on the ability of the establishment to deliver its objectives by cost-effective, legally-acceptable, fair, practical and sustainable means;
  7. Collaborating and keeping in close contact with relevant Departments at the Corporate office, in keeping track of and having and maintaining control over inputs into the operations;
  8. Providing general training and counsel to employees on the job;
  9. Instilling a high level of discipline and dedication to duty amongst employees;
  10. Maintaining a high level of safety, health, hygiene, and environmental consciousness in and around the premises;
  11. Coordinate front-office activities of the lodge/restaurant and resolve problems
  12. Inspect eating areas, guest rooms for Mpale Lodge, public areas, and grounds for cleanliness and appearance at all times
  13. Managing and monitoring of sales, conference, swimming pool facilities for Mpale Cultural Village
  14. Conducting monthly stock taking, and explaining variances,
  15. Ensuring that acceptable Food and Beverage margins as required are achieved

Requirements and Skills

  • Knowledge of organizational effectiveness and operations management
  • Experience in Hotel Master System
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Sales oriented (Rooms, conference facilities, Restaurant, Swimming Pool, Cultural edutainment and Bar)
  • Outstanding organizational skills
  • Experience in budgeting and forecasting
  • Excellent leadership skills, social skills
  • Understanding of finance principles, supply chain management, workflow, and staffing issues.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Diploma in Hotel and Tourism Management or its equivalent, or a Degree in Hospitality Management, will be an added advantage.
  • A Diploma in Sales and Marketing will also be an added advantage
  • A minimum of 2 – 3 years’ work experience in a hotel set-up or in a busy restaurant.
