The Hunger Project Malawi (THP – Malawi), is a branch of the Global Hunger Project, a non-profit, strategic organization committed to the sustainable end of world hunger. THP-Malawi has been operating in Malawi since 1999 and is currently running programs and projects in the following districts: Blantyre, Chikwawa, Neno, Nsanje, Ntcheu, Phalombe and Salima

Grants Partnerships and Advocacy Coordinator (1) – Blantyre
Position Summary
The primary purpose of this position is to lead development and implementation of resource mobilization strategy for THP-Malawi, build effective partnerships with local governments, private sector and civil society in Malawi, develop and regularly update the Country Programme funding matrix and ensure high standard donor management requirements. The job holder works in close collaboration with THP-Malawi programme and finance teams. The job holder also supports partner countries in the development of proposals. The position reports to THP-Malawi Country Manager.
Essential Functions
a) Resource Mobilization and Fundraising
- To lead in the development and implementation of a Fundraising Strategy and Annual Fundraising Plans for THP-Malawi Country programme.
- To conduct regular donor scoping and support the country programme to secure new funding streams for projects.
- To ensure that effective practices in management of existing, new and prospective donors are in place.
- To support THP-Malawi’s epicenters in initiating and coordinating fundraising campaigns and events and maximize the potential for new opportunities for epicenter income generation.
- To provide guidance and quality assurance support for funding proposals development and donor reports.
- To ensure effective implementation of THP-Malawi’s Visibility and
Communication Strategy.
b) Donor Contracts/grants Management
- To ensure effective operational planning and budget setting in line with donor contractual agreements.
- To maintain an effective contract management system for the Country Programme, including management of all critical donor contract information and reporting processes by ensuring that he/she is working with program team and finance personnel to produce donor reports well aligned with agreed quality standards
- To assist THP-Malawi staff and its partners in understanding and conforming to specific donor requirements in all aspects of project implementation, management and monitoring.
- To organize and coordinate donor visits liaising between programme staff and member fundraisers to ensure the visits are of high standard.
- Monthly updating of the Country Programme funding matrix ensuring hieh quality information is provided for submission to the Head of Finance and the Country Manager for review and approval.
- To generate, organize and share relevant donor intelligence to facilitate effective management of donor grants.
- To provide support in the negotiation of donor agreements and their clearance by THP-Malawi Country Manager
- To review, monitor and document donor funding, policies and trends and their implications on THP-Malawi
- To contribute to the development of publications and communications materials which have relevance to meeting fundraising and donor relations objectives.
- To contribute to strategic discussions as they relate to resource mobilization and allocation and determination of investment priorities
c) Strategic Partnership building
- To lead development of effective partnerships with local governments and the private sector
- Proactively flag to the Country Manager any gaps in capacity needs to meet funder requirements.
- Ensure capacity needs of the THP-Malawi staff and partners are met in order to enable each programme to effectively manage their fundraising activities and donor reporting requirements.
d) Advocacy and Movement for Community Led Development
- Lead the development of THP-Malawi’s Advocacy Strategy and its implementation
- Provide leadership to Malawi’s CLD Chapter
- To ensure that all activities and collaborations are in line with THP’s principles and are such that they uphold or enhance our positive reputation.
Required Qualifications and Competencies
- A minimum of Bachelor’s Degree in Social sciences, Agricultural Economics/Agribusiness or its equivalent. Those with Master’s degree will have added advantage.
- Minimum of at least 5 years of experience as a compliance, donor relations and/or grant manager or similar role
- Preferred: experience in non-profit setting with remote team structure, and experience in a fast-paced environment
- Proficiency with MS Office i.e., Excel, Word, and PowerPoint
- High level of knowledge with Google Suite and tools;
- Ability to adapt and work in a very flexible, fluid, and evolving environment;
- High level of accuracy and attention to detail
- Resourceful self-starter with ability to independently multi-task and prioritize.
- Representational skills including experience in developing relationships with government and donors agencies at senior level.
- Demonstrated ability to attract and secure new funds and the skills necessary to build and sustain existing relationships with foundations, individuals, corporations and statutory/multilateral donors.
- Ability to plan own work, setting priorities and completing them, including ability to work under pressure and to work with minimum supervision.
- Strong analytical thinking
- High level of confidentiality;
- Fluency in English is required;
- Ability to travel domestically in rural communities
