The Organisation

The Mehboob Memorial Centre is a non-political, non-governmental, and non-profit Malawian charitable organisation, originally established in 1989. Located 19 km from Mangochi town, off the Lake Shore Road towards Monkey Bay, the Centre operates a diverse range of services, employing 238 staff across various projects.

The flagship Darul Uloom (religious boarding school) hosts 250 boarding students enrolled in full Alim and Hif programmes. Additionally, the Centre runs 40 Maktabs (supplementary schools) serving over 4,500 students, alongside four national curriculum schools educating 2,000 students – including one in the remote region of Makanjira.

Healthcare services are provided via a medical clinic and maternity unit on-site, attending to 2,000 patients monthly and conducting 400 natal checks and 50 births per month.

The Role

We are seeking an exceptional Director to lead and expand this multifaceted organisation.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Strategic Leadership: Drive the Centre’s overarching strategy and operational direction across all projects.
  • Holistic Management: Oversee operations, finance, HR, and stakeholder engagement.
  • Regulatory Compliance: Ensure adherence to local and international legal and charitable regulations.
  • Partnership Management: Strengthen existing partnerships and cultivate new ones with professionalism and diplomacy.
  • Resource Stewardship: Champion value for money, professionalism, and ethical operations across the organisation.
  • Development Vision: Transform the Centre into a world-class institution of excellence and achievement.
  • Accountability: Deliver regular, detailed reports to the Board of Trustees, and external donors.

The Candidate

  • We are looking for a dynamic, visionary leader who embodies the following skills and attributes:
  • Proven Leadership: Strong leadership and interpersonal skills, with excellent verbal and written communication abilities.
  • Senior Management Experience: Solid background in operations, financial management, and team leadership.
  • Education: Preferably educated to Master’s level.
  • Personal Qualities: Innovative, energetic, and adaptable with a hands-on, problem-solving mindset.
  • Resilience: Ability to multi-task, work under pressure, and thrive in a remote, resource-limited setting.
  • Cultural Awareness: Willingness to learn Chichewa is an advantage.
