VACANCY ANNOUNCEMENT

RESEARCH ASSISTANT – PONEO STUDY PROJECT

The Pediatric and Child Health Association (PACHA) is a non-profit making organization and Centre of Excellence in child care, research, and innovation whose mission is ‘to advance knowledge, skills, and innovations in child and maternal care through high-quality research that responds to and influences the global/national policy, health, and development needs in an efficient, sustainable, and result-oriented manner’. PACHA is currently implementing the Post-discharge Newborn Outcome (PONEO) Project in line with its research agenda.

The PONEO Project funded by UNICEF Malawi is looking for suitable candidates to fill the positions of Research Assistant, which will be based in Dedza and Mangochi respectively.

DURATION OF CONTRACT

The initial contract will be for one year with possibility for further extension based on performance and availability of funding.

REPORTING LINE

The Research Assistant will be reporting to the Principal Investigator

KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

The Research Assistant will be expected to perform the following key duties and responsibilities:

  • Conduct Developmental and clinical Assessments to the research subjects using MDAT tool
  • Collecting Informed consents from the guardians of the study participants
  • Collecting data using structured questionnaire and guides for qualitative component
  • Locating the study participants in their respective homes and book for the interviews.
  • Participate in writing research reports, policy briefs and other documents
  • Contribute to Stakeholder Mapping and engagement
  • Assist in organizing and facilitating program meetings

REQUIREMENTS

Candidates must have at least the following:

  • Diploma in Nursing or Certificate/Diploma in clinical Medicine and be registered with respective board (Nursing or Medical council)
  • Experience in Research
  • Experience in working with rural communities
  • Excellent communication verbal and written skills
  • Must be a good Team player, ready to work with a multidisciplinary Team.
  • Must be able and willing to ride a motorbike

Other Requirements

PACHA has a zero tolerance to Sexual Exploitation and Abuse of beneficiaries.  Protection from Sexual Exploitation and Abuse (PSEA) is everyone’s responsibility and all staff are required to adhere to the Code of Conduct, that enshrines principles of PSEA, always (both during work hours and outside work hours).  Familiarization with, and adherence to, the Code of Conduct is an essential requirement of all staff, in addition to related mandatory training.  All staff must ensure that they understand and act in accordance with this clause.
