Mzuzu University (MZUNI) is a Public University established by the Laws of Malawi Cap 30:09 (Mzuzu University Act No. 12 of 1997). Currently, the University has six faculties of Education; Environmental Sciences; Health Sciences; Tourism, Hospitality and Management; Science, Technology and Innovation; and Humanities and Social Sciences. It is a dual mode University offering its courses through face-to-face and open, distance and e-learning (ODeL) teaching and learning modes. It also offers some of its programmes on block, week-end and vacation release.

The University invites applications from suitably qualified candidates to fill the following vacant position:

Vacancy No.2: Research Ethics Administrator

The Research Ethics Administrator will report to the Director of Research. He/she will be responsible for providing administrative support services to the University’s research ethics and monitoring processes under the MZUNI Research and Ethics Committee (MZUNIREC) whose mandate is to review research protocols for both postgraduate and any other research work that touches on human subjects. He/she will also be responsible for activities in the Muzu University Technology Transfer Office (TTO) in the Directorate of Research.

Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Putting up a calendar of events and activities of the University Research Ethics Committee;
  2. Processing all ethical clearance in line with the University’s standard operating procedures;
  3. Servicing the University Research Ethics Committee;
  4. Communicating with applicants and other stakeholders of the ethics review process and outcome;
  5. Facilitating the monitoring and inspection of studies approved by the University’s Research Ethics Committee;
  6. Ensuring continued review of approved study protocols at appropriate intervals;
  7. Managing records and a database of all research processed by the University;
  8. Preparing and managing documents, records, reports in the Technology Transfer Office; and
  9. Planning and organizing meetings in the Technology Transfer Office.

Qualifications

  1. Candidates must have a minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree in Bioethics or Social Sciences with a strong background in research ethics from a reputable and accredited institution of higher learning; and
  2. At least two (2) years relevant experience in a large organization.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  1. Confidentiality of information and materials;
  2. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills;
  3. Ability to screen research proposals;
  4. Knowledge of grant proposal writing;
  5. Data analysis and interpretation skills;
  6. Excellent computer skills; and
  7. Team building skills.
