Umodzi Holdings Limited (UHL) was incorporated under Companies Act on 18th May 2012. UHL is 100% owned by the Government of the Republic of Malawi. UHL is currently managed as a highly prestigious domestic brand under the name ‘Umodzi Park and Resorts’ (UPR) and has the following properties at the heart of Malawi’s Capital City of Lilongwe which form part of its business establishment:

  • Umodzi Park which comprises the Bingu International Convention Centre (BICC), The President Hotel comprising 130 rooms.
  • The Presidential Village comprising 14 world class presidential villas which offer unique accommodation and office rental facilities.

UHL seeks to urgently engage energetic, result oriented, suitable qualified Malawians to fill the following vacant post tenable in Lilongwe:

Job Title: INTERNAL AUDIT, RISK & COMPLIANCE MANAGER

Reporting to: Functionally to the Chairman of the Finance & Audit Committee of the Board but administratively to the Chief Executive Officer

Role Overview:

The Internal Audit, Risk & Compliance Manager’s main role is to provide strategic direction and manage the development and implementation of Audit, Risk and Compliance Management framework. To monitor compliance with statutory requirements, policies and procedures in line with IIA Standards and UHL Policies and procedures.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain Internal audit, risk management and compliance policies and procedures in line with relevant legislation and standards.
  • Develop and implement a strategic and operational internal audit, risk management and compliance framework.
  • Develop an engagement plan in line with lIA standards and the UHL’s Internal Audit, Risk and Compliance Management policies.
  • Take lead in conducting routine, investigative and value added audits as well as risk management and compliance assessment exercises with a view to appraise the Company’s control systems, efficiency and effectiveness in utilisation of its resources.
  • Update the risk register on regular basis.
  • Participate in the strategic planning of UHL
  • Contribute to the overall effective functioning of UHL
  • Develop a plan to operationalise the unit’s strategic performance targets.
  • Coach and mentor internal audit, risk & compliance staff to ensure high performance.

Qualifications and Experience

  • At least a Bachelor’s Degree in Auditing / Finance/ Accounting from a duly accredited institution of higher learning.
  • A Certification as a Certified Internal Auditor (CIA).
  • Membership of ICAM/lIA Malawi in good standing.
  • Possession of an MBA or ACCA will be an added advantage
  • At least 10 years of practical work experience in audit, risk and compliance including at least 5 years in a senior management level obtained within Governance, Risk and/or Audit Management.
  • Previous experience in internal Audit, risk and compliance management in the hospitality sector an added advantage.
  • Knowledge of legislative and regulatory framework
  • Knowledge of Public Finance and Management Act (PFMA), Treasury regulations and guidelines.

  • Confident stakeholder management, communication skills (both written and verbal English), able to build relationships and challenge the status quo at a senior level.
  • Must be conversant with modern corporate governance practices including reporting;
  • Ready and willing to work odd hours and during weekends.
