The Local Government Service Commission is inviting applications from suitably qualified Malawians to fill the following vacant posts that exist in the different sectors of Nkhotakota District Council.

JOB TITLE: OPTOMETRY TECHNICIAN

GRADE: K/M9

REPORTING TO : SENIOR OPTOMETRY TECHNICIAN

QUALIFICATIONS

Applicants must be in possession of a Diploma in Clinical Optometry from accredited institutions and must be registered with Medical Council of Malawi.

DUTIES:

  1. Providing comprehensive eye examination including complete ocular health assessment, full refractive and low vision care.
  2. Using ocular diagnostic drugs to diagnose conditions such as refractive errors, accommodative dysfunction, and dry eye syndrome.
  3. Prescribing, supplying, fitting and dispensing spectacles and other visions aids.
  4. Maintains knowledge of eye diseases such as color blindness and glaucoma.
  5. Provides low vision services, and prescribing appropriate low vision aids.
  6. Analysing test results to determine causes and nature of eve diseases.
  7. Formulates and implement plans to counter eye problems and diseases.
  8. Provides primary eve care services at the community level including community and institutional eye screening.
  9. Educating patients on the use and care of eyes such as visual hygiene and contact lenses care.
  10. Refers eye conditions appropriately.
