Malawi Environment Protection Authority (MEPA)

The Malawi Environment Protection Authority (MEPA) was established by Section 7 (1) of the Environment Management Act (EMA) of 2017 as the principal agency for the protection and management of the environment and sustainable utilization of natural resources. MEPA coordinates, monitors, supervises and consults with all relevant stakeholders on all activities relating to the utilization and management of the environment and natural resources.

The MEPA is inviting applications from suitable, highly qualified, experienced and motivated candidates to fill the position of Environmental Information Management and Education Manager tenable at its secretariat situated in Arwa House, City Center, Lilongwe

ENVIRONMENTAL INFORMATION MANAGEMENT AND EDUCATION MANAGER
Grade : ME3
Directorate : Environmental Planning and Information Management
Reporting to : Director of Planning and Information Management Services
Responsible for : Senior Environmental Information Management Officer : Senior Environmental Communication Officer

PURPOSE, ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Purpose of the Job: To lead in the promotion of environmental Information, Education & Outreach programmes

Key Roles and Responsibilities

  1. Develop and implementMEPA’s public relations and communications strategy
  2. Serve as MEPA’s spokesperson on matters delegated by the supervisors
  3. Design, review, coordinate and oversee implementation of environmental training at all levels, including in-service training.
  4. Design, review, coordinate and oversee implementation of environmental education and public awareness programmes including non-formal, informal and formal education and outreach programs.
  5. Design, review and oversee implementation of environmental information management systems.
  6. Oversee the exchange of information through participation in environmental education and outreach networks at local, national and international levels.
  7. Any other duties as assigned by the Director of Environmental Affairs from time to time.

PERSON SPECIFICATIONS
Qualifications and Experience

  • MSc. or Master of Arts in Environmental Sciences or Environmental Education, Environmental Economics or
    Natural Resources Management or Environmental Planning or Environmental Sciences or Environmental Management with 6 years’ experience.
  • PhD in above field is an added advantage.
