NATIONAL ORGANISATION OF NURSES AND MIDWIVES OF MALAWI – CALL FOR APPLICATIONS
1. Background
The National Organisation of Nurses and Midwives of Malawi (NONM) founded in 1979 is an independent, non-partisan, non-governmental and professional organization representing nurses and midwives of Malawi. Its goals are to safeguard nurses/midwives’ professional, organizational, trade union and social economic interests; and to influence nursing and midwifery professions i.e., education, practice, and research, thereby serving the population of Malawi. The organization confines its interests to nurses/midwives and the nursing/midwifery profession.
NONM), in partnership with the Norwegian Nurses Organisation (NNO), is pleased to announce the second round of Small Scale Research Grants for its Members. These grants aim to support nurses and midwives in implementing initiatives that improve healthcare quality while generating evidence to inform decision-making within NONM and the broader nursing and midwifery profession.
2. Grant Amount and Purpose
Grants ranging from MK500,000 to MK1,000,000 will be awarded to successful applicants whose projects align with NONM’s objectives, including:
- Promoting high standards of nursing and midwifery services for the well-being of Malawians
- Advancing nursing and midwifery practice, management, education, research, and ethics
- Enhancing the dignity, rights, and welfare of nurses and midwives
- Supporting equitable access to healthcare in line with Universal Health Coverage
Note: Both quality improvement and scientific research proposals will be considered.
3. Eligibility Criteria
To qualify for this grant, applicants must meet the following criteria:
- Be a NONM member or a group of NONM members in good standing (paid-up for at least one year)
- Non-NONM members (nurses and midwives) must partner with NONM members and commit to obtaining membership before grant disbursement
- Applicants must not have previously benefited from NONM small grants
4. Application Process
Applicants are required to submit:
- A project proposal outlining:
- Background
- Clear objectives
- Methodology
- Timeline (not exceeding 6 months) including project development up to report submission)
- Budget (between K500,000 to K1,000,000)
5. Deadline for Applications
All applications must be submitted via email to secretariat@nonm.mw by 15th May 2026.
Late submissions will not be considered.
