GIZ Malawi
VACANCY ANNOUNCEMENT: COMMUNICATION INTERN
The Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH is a German federal enterprise that supports the German Federal Government in achieving its objectives in the field of international cooperation for sustainable development. GIZ operates in more than 130 countries worldwide and has been active in Malawi for over 60 years.
Energizing Development (EnDev) is a multi-donor energy access partnership programme, financed by the governments of the Netherlands, Germany, Norway, and Switzerland. GIZ acts as the lead implementing agency for the programme, working in close collaboration with the Netherlands Enterprise Agency (RVO) and various local implementation partners. EnDev promotes sustainable access to modern energy services, with a particular focus on reaching poor and underserved populations.
Since its inception in 2005, EnDev has made significant contributions to expanding energy access globally. To date, the programme has delivered sustainable energy access to 33.9 million people across Africa, Asia, and Latin America, with a strong focus on areas where energy needs are most acute.
This overall achievement includes:
- 26.1 million people who have gained access to modern cooking solutions, supporting a transition from lower-tier to higher-tier clean cooking technologies.
- 7.8 million people who have gained access to electricity, including communities, micro, small and medium-sized enterprises (MSMES), schools, and health centres, primarily through solar lamps, home systems, and mini-grids.
In Malawi, EnDev is implemented by GIZ using a market-oriented, country-wide approach. The programme comprises several components, including EnDev Core, which focuses on improved cookstoves, electric cooking, and solar energy. Additional co-financed components include Ag-Energy, co-financed by the Global Energy Alliance for People and Planet (GEAPP), Putting Energy to Work, co-financed by the European Union, Energice, co-financed by the Embassy of Iceland in Malawi and Demand Side Subsidy (DSS), co-financed by the Government of the Netherlands
As the project nears completion and is scheduled to close in 2026, there is a strong focus on the development of knowledge products to support internal learning, share experiences with partners, and inform future programming.
To support this process, the project is seeking to recruit a Communications Intern to assist the communications team during the final months of implementation. The intern will be based in Lilongwe for a period of six months, from September 2025 to February 2026.
