Globe and Serendib Hotels & Resorts is looking for highly motivated and experienced managers to fill the position of Environmental Specialist tenable at our corporate office in Limbe – Blantyre.
Job Scope:
As an Environmental Specialist your role shall entail protecting and improving the environment through research, data analysis, conducting inspections, and developing strategies to mitigate environmental risks and improve environmental performance to ensure compliance with environmental regulations.
The job incumbent shall serve as an environmental expert to help with protection and management of the environment.
Job description:
Specifically, the job shall involve:
- Developing guidelines for waste management and other processes that affect the environment.
- Develop and implement effective guidelines and procedures to ensure effective management of waste.
- Monitor and report on compliance with environmental laws and regulations.
- Conduct audits and inspections of all companies within the group and client operations.
- Develop and implement effective programs to reduce or eliminate waste.
- Identify and mitigate potential environmental liabilities related to operations; ensure proper disposal practices are met, and report any non-compliance.
- Make regular safety inspections, including hazardous material inventory, spill response, and emergency response
- Understand and comply with environmental laws and regulations
- Encourage and promote environmental consciousness among employees
- Operate and maintain safety equipment
- Monitoring the environment, investigating environmental issues and creating solutions for concerns for the group.
- Work to minimize pollution, manage waste, and promote sustainability.
- Conducting or overseeing field work to collect data.
- Monitoring changes to the environment.
- Working with environmental stakeholders (regulatory and government agencies) and other environmental experts to mitigate environmental risks around the business group.
- Updating management through reports about environmental inspections or observations.
- Collaborating with all companies within the group to reduce their impact on the environment.
Required Qualifications:
- A minimum of Bachelor’s degree in Biology, Environmental Science, or Public Health
- At least 3 years’ proven experience in environmental program management
- Excellent communication and writing skills
- Ability to manage complex operations with multiple sub-projects and teams
- Knowledge of environmental laws and regulations
- Excellence in reports writing.
