CHIEF MEDIA AND DIGITALISATION MANAGER

The Times Group Ltd, established in 1895, is the biggest and leading Media House and the only 360 degrees Media House in the Country.
Divisions operating under The Times Group Ltd are Times Press, Dzuka Publishing Company, Times Television, Times Radio, TimesCom, Times Courier and Times360Malawi.
The Times Group is inviting applications from suitably qualified and experienced candidates to fill the position of Chief Media and Digitalisation Manager, tenable at its Head Office, Ginnery Corner, Blantyre.
JOB OVERVIEW
The overall objective of this position is leading The Times Group’s transformation into a fully integrated, digital-first, audience-focused media powerhouse by overseeing the strategic direction, digitalisation, and unification of all content operations across Times Press, Times Television, Times Radio, E-Times, and digital platforms.
The CMDM shall also be responsible for building and managing cross-functional content teams, driving innovation in storytelling, and ensuring commercial viability through data-driven strategies and modern monetisation models thereby upholding the leadership of The Times Group within the media industry in the Country.
KEY DELIVERABLES
The job holder will be a strategic Executive reporting to the Managing Director and responsible for the core function of the Company and will be expected to deliver results in the following key performance areas:
1. Strategic Leadership & Transformation
- Drive the restructuring of media operations from legacy silos (Print, TV, Radio) into multi-skilled, beat-based content teams in configuration with The Times Group’s strategic plan.
- Champion and operationalisse an audience-first, content strategy framework, ensuring seamless adaptation of content across digital, broadcast, and print platforms.
- Cultivate a “Digital First” newsroom culture, instilling agility,
‘Leading is our Way of Life’ mentality, and collaboration. - Conduct research, analysis and prepare Management
- Reports including preparation of marketing competitive analysis and present proposals on how to improve the marketing position of The Times brand within the industry.
2. Content Development Strategy & Innovation
- Lead the content generation strategy & planning hub in identifying trends, defining content goals, and coordinating the execution of compelling multi-platform storytelling.
- Ensure that the content is creative, accessible, accurate, and aligned with The Times Group’s Editorial and professional standards and values.
- Lead innovation in content generation and conveyance by guiding the integration of Al tools, mobile journalism, and interactive formats (e.g., vodcasts, social videos, explainers).
3. Digital Growth & Platform Development
- Oversee the evolution of The Times Group’s digital ecosystem website, app, e-Times, YouTube, podcasts, social channels to ensure consistent voice and audience engagement.
- Implement performance dashboards, track KPis, and act on insights from the Audience Engagement & Analytics Team to improve the dynamics of the digital transformation agenda.
- Recommend and prioritize investment in digital tools, systems, or partnerships needed to scale the digital offering.
4. People & Culture Leadership
- Build and mentor high-performing teams of multi-skilled content creators, platform strategists, and producers.
- Collaborate with HR to establish a growth-oriented structure with clear performance metrics, succession paths, and a retention strategy for top talent.
- Spearhead internal and external structured training and coaching programmes that equip Staff with modern storytelling and digital production skills.
5. Governance & Compliance
- Ensure strict compliance with legal and regulatory frameworks (MACRA, MCM, MISA), copyright laws, and The Times Group’s Editorial Policy.
- Recommend updates to policies, workflows and processes in order to encourage innovation and performance.
- Foster and maintain relationships with key stakeholders and partners including representing The Times Group in public, industry, and stakeholder forums.
THE PERSON
The ideal candidate will have progressive experience in digital media leadership, editorial strategy development and implementation in a fast paced environment, or media product development. He/she MUSI meet the following requirements:
- Proven experience managing multi-platform content teams.
- Strong understanding of audience engagement metrics, digital monetization models, and media technology tools.
- Demonstrated ability to lead change and reshape legacy media environments.
- Experience working in both traditional and ‘digital-first’ newsrooms.
- Familiarity with tools like Google Analytics, podcast platforms, Content Management System softwares, Al writing/editing assistants, Adobe Creative Suite, and others.
- Entrepreneurial mindset, high digital fluency, and deep passion for modern storytelling.
- Effective leadership skills including ability to motivate teams.
- Must be able to think analytically and strategically.
- Superior written and verbal communication skills.
- Relevant degrees at both Bachelors’ and Masters’ level
