The Opportunity
Save the Children is inviting applications from suitably qualified candidates to fill the position of Enumerator for its field-based data collection activities across SCI project implementation districts in Malawi. The Enumerator will support qualitative and quantitative data collection for various projects on a temporary and need-based engagement.
This position reports directly to the Research Supervisor or Project MEAL Lead and will work closely with project teams and research supervisors to ensure high-quality and accurate data collection using digital tools. The Enumerator will be critical in informing program learning, accountability, and adaptive management across SCI’s key thematic areas, including Child Protection, Child Rights Governance, Education, Health & Nutrition, and Child Poverty.
Enumerators will engage directly with community members, including vulnerable groups, and will be responsible for conducting interviews, facilitating focus group discussions (FGDs), transcribing qualitative notes, and supporting data quality assurance efforts.
In the event of a major humanitarian emergency, the role holder will be expected to work outside the normal role profile and be able to vary working hours accordingly.
In order to be successful, you will bring/have:
- A minimum of a Diploma in Development Studies, Social Sciences, Agriculture, Community Development, Environmental Health, Monitoring & Evaluation, IT, or any other relevant field
- A Bachelor’s degree is an added advantage
- Previous experience as an Enumerator or Research Assistant
- Strong skills in using digital data collection platforms such as Kobo Collect, CommCare, Survey CTO, or ODK
- Proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
- Accurate typing and data entry skills
- Knowledge of community entry protocols and engagement techniques
- Excellent command of English and Chichewa
