Vacancy Announcement: Field Officer

Mzuzu Diocese Catholic Health Commission (MDCHC) is a key arm of the Diocese’s social mission, dedicated to promoting holistic health and upholding the dignity of all people, especially the poor and vulnerable. Guided by Catholic social teaching, the Department operates health facilities and community programs that aim to ensure equitable access to quality health services across the Diocese.

In its efforts of ensuring the provision of quality health services, MDCHC would like to recruit the Field Officer for water project the Diocese.

Report to : Project Officer
Location : Mzuzu

Main Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Manage and coordinate field operations
  • Perform regular field visits to ensure quality of data collected by Programs team and to verify the accuracy of reported data.
  • Gather and document quality evidence of program implementation activities
  • Implement and monitor program activities
  • Report and document results and anomalies observed in the field
  • Support the programs team in organizing and executing field activities
  • Develop and maintain good relationships with local communities, stakeholders and staff
  • Conduct regular meetings with community members to understand their needs
  • Develop action plan for key Health related activities: monthly, quarterly and bi-annually.
  • Work hand in hand with key stakeholders in all activities for sustainability of the project.
  • Conduct regular and ongoing consultation, participation and liaison with relevant development partners and stakeholders at community and district level.
  • Provide technical assistance, capacity building and supervision to Partners and beneficiaries in
    community-based delivery.
  • Monitor progress of all project activities at community and District level as well measure milestones towards realization of outcomes.
  • Mobilize local communities to fully participate in implementing project activities.
  • Compile and submit timely and accurate periodical reports to the coordinator.

Qualification and Experience

  • Diploma or Degree in Public Health, Environmental Health, Social Sciences, Community Development, or related field.
  • At least 2 years of relevant experience working on community-based WASH or water projects.
  • Demonstrated experience in community mobilization and capacity building.
  • Knowledge of WASH infrastructure (e.g., boreholes, piped systems) is an added advantage.
  • Strong interpersonal, communication, and reporting skills.
  • Must be willing to work in remote rural communities with limited supervision.
  • Understanding and commitment to Catholic values and principles is essential
  • Proven work experience as a Field Officer or similar role
  • Strong understanding of data collection methods
  • Proficient in MS Office; working knowledge of data analysis and management
  • Ability to work with different teams and multi-task
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Ability to work in harsh field conditions.
