Job Title : Community Engagement Facilitator – Neotree Project
Location : Kasungu, Malawi, with travel to rural areas
Reporting to : Community Engagement Coordinator
Type of Role : Full-time (minimum of 7 months)
To start : 1st September, 2025
Background
Neotree is a digital health innovation designed to improve newborn outcomes by equipping healthcare workers with real-time clinical decision support and data collection tools. In Malawi, Neotree is being rolled out in partnership with the Ministry of Health, with a long-term vision of integration into the Malawi Health Information System (MaHIS).
In 2024, the project began a programme of community engagement work with mothers, caregivers and families linked to Neotree intervention sites. The aim is to establish mother/parent groups at primary, secondary and tertiary health facilities within the Neotree Newborn Network.
The role
To promote and enhance community engagement activities for Kasungu district, the project would like to hire a result-oriented Community Engagement Facilitator who will work with the project team in line with the Neotree project’s community engagement strategy. This role will involve the day-to-day facilitation of community engagement activities, fostering effective communication and collaboration among community members, healthcare professionals, and other stakeholders. The Facilitator will play a vital role in ensuring that community voices are heard and integrated into the project’s activities. We are looking for a creative candidate who demonstrates the ability to think outside the box and brings innovative approaches to community engagement.
Key Responsibilities
- Patient and Public Involvement (PPI) Groups and Family-Centred Care Pathway Support:
- Assist the Coordinator in the planning, organisation, and execution of monthly PPI group meetings at facilities in the Neotree Newborn Network in Kasungu.
- Support the Coordinator in building strong relationships with PPI group members, addressing their needs, and ensuring their ongoing engagement.
- Support the implementation and piloting of family-centred care pathways, under the guidance of the Coordinator.
- Rural Dialogue Support:
- Collaborate with the Coordinator in the planning and implementation of rural dialogues.
- Assisting in the identification of key community stakeholders and participants, employing creative strategies to reach marginalised groups.
- Mobilising community members to participate in dialogue sessions.
- Facilitating dialogue sessions, employing participatory techniques to elicit and document community health needs and priorities, particularly those of parents and caregivers.
- Parent Ambassador Support:
- Assist in the identification, recruitment, and training of Parent Ambassadors.
- Provide ongoing support and mentorship to Parent Ambassadors in their role of providing peer support to mothers and families.
- Monitor and document the activities and impact of the Parent Ambassador program.
- IEC Materials Development Support:
- Collaborate with designers, healthcare professionals, and families in the development of Information, Education, and Communication (IEC) materials to support parents and caregivers in delivering family-centred care.
- Ensure that IEC materials are culturally appropriate, accessible, and effectively disseminated within the target communities.
5. Co-production Workshop, Administrative & Events Support
- Provide logistical, administrative, and facilitation support for co-production workshops, which bring together healthcare professionals and parents/carers to design and develop family-centred clinical care pathways.
- Assist in the organisation and coordination of dissemination events.
- Developing and disseminating key messaging.
- Development of online content and campaigns.
- Documenting meeting proceedings
- Maintaining accurate records
6. Stakeholders and relationship management
- Maintain strong relationships with key stakeholders, including hospital staff, project partners, and community members.
Qualifications and Experience
Required:
- Bachelor’s degree in a relevant discipline. Ideal degrees include: Public Health, Community Development, Social Sciences, Health Communication, Arts and humanities or a related field focusing on community engagement.
- Minimum of 2 years of experience working in community engagement or related field settings, or with healthcare professionals. Demonstrated experience in community mobilisation, engagement, and facilitation.
- Experience using participatory engagement techniques.
- Strong communication (verbal and written) and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build rapport with diverse stakeholders.
- Fluent in Chichewa and English.
- Ability to collect, organise, analyse, and summarise information and data.
Desirable:
- Familiarity with the development and dissemination of IEC materials.
- Experience working in a healthcare setting.
- Experience implementing family-centred care work.
- Familiarity with the development and dissemination of IEC materials.
