Responsible for: Senior Legal Counsel

Purpose of the job

  1. To provide high-level legal guidance and support to Members of Parliament (MPs), Parliamentary Committees, and the Parliamentary Service.
  2. Duties
  3. Assists in drafting and scrutinizing proposed amendments to Government and private members’ bills;
  4. Assists in liaising with the Attorney General’s office on litigation and procedural matters affecting the National Assembly and the Parliamentary Service Commission;
  5. Conducts litigation on behalf of Parliament:
  6. Assists in conducting Bill analysis;
  7. Provides legal advice and opinions as required:
  8. Assists in the preparation of the annual workplan and budget for the Legal Services Division
  9. Manages and appraises staff under his or her charge.

Qualifications and Experience

Bachelor of Law Degree (LLB Hons). Admitted to practice in Malawi; and at least three (3) years’ work experience as a legal practitioner. A qualification and experience in legislative drafting is desirable.
