
Malawi Bureau of Standards (MBS)
The Malawi Bureau of Standards (MBS) is a statutory organization established in 1972 by an Act of Parliament (Cap 51:02) with a mandate to promote standardization of commodities and their manufacture, production, processing or treatment and to provide for the verification and calibration of weighing and measuring instruments; and further to provide for matter incidental to or connected with standardization.

Job title: Deputy Director of Testing Services (Engineering Technology)
Grade: BS4
Reporting to: Director of Testing Services
Department: Testing Services Development
Section/Division: Engineering Technology
Responsible for: Senior Scientific Officers
Number of posts : One 1)
Job Purpose
To provide headship and provide overall supervision for efficient provision of testing services.
Key Roles and Responsibilities
- Planning and coordinating procurement of equipment and installation
- Verifying laboratory results;
- Training on the job laboratory personnel;
- Ensuring that appropriate equipment and consumables are adequately available all the times;
- Planning, organizing and coordinating work programs for the division
- Coordinating the preparation of divisional budget and presentation of the same to the Director,
- Monitoring and evaluating implementation of laboratory quality systems;
- Monitoring the implementation of the approved divisional budget;
- Consolidating progress reports;
- Appraising the performance of Senior Scientific Officer.
Required Academic Qualifications and Experience
- A Master’s Degree in Applied Sciences/Engineering.
- At least 4 years’ practical experience at a Senior Scientific Officer level
