Our Client, PBM Construction, a leading construction firm in Malawi, is expanding its business portfolio by launching a new venture, PBM Steel and Concrete Company (SteelCon), a company specializing in the production and sale of ready-mix concrete, Iron sheets and Cement Products.
To support this strategic expansion, PBM seeks to recruit key leadership personnel for SteelCon.
Applications are invited from suitably qualified and experienced professionals for the three (3) positions of General Manager – Building Materials Manufacturing; Production Manager – Building Materials Manufacturing; and Sales and Marketing Manager – Building Materials Manufacturing.
JOB TITLE: GENERAL MANAGER – BUILDING MATERIALS MANUFACTURING
- Job Summary:
The General Manager (GM) is responsible for the overall management, strategic direction, and operational efficiency of a manufacturing company specializing in roofing sheets, ready-mix concrete, and other cement-based construction products. The GM will lead cross-functional teams, ensure production targets are met, maintain high standards of quality, safety, and compliance, and drive profitability and business growth.
- Key Responsibilities:
Reporting to the Chief Executive Officer/Board of Directors, the incumbent of the post shall perform the following duties:
Strategic and Operational Management:
- Develop and implement strategic business plans aligned with the company’s long-term vision and growth objectives.
- Lead daily operations across production, sales, logistics, procurement, maintenance, and quality assurance.
- Monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) for productivity, profitability, quality, and customer satisfaction.
- Production and Quality Control:
- Oversee manufacturing processes for roofing sheets, ready-mix concrete, and cement-based products to ensure efficiency and output quality.
- Coordinate production schedules and resource planning to meet market demand.
- Ensure compliance with industry standards (ISO, ASTM, SANS, etc.) and regulatory requirements.
Sales and Business Development:
- Drive sales and market expansion strategies to increase revenue and market share.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with clients, contractors, distributors, and key industry stakeholders.
- Analyze market trends and adjust product offerings accordingly.
Financial Management:
- Prepare and manage budgets, control operational costs, and ensure financial targets are met.
- Provide regular financial and operational reports to the board of Directors or Shareholders.
- Manage pricing strategies to ensure competitiveness and profitability.
People and Team Leadership:
- Lead, motivate, and develop a high-performing team across all departments.
- Oversee recruitment, performance management, and training initiatives.
- Foster a culture of accountability, continuous improvement, and workplace safety.
Compliance and Safety:
- Ensure the company operates within local environmental, health, and safety regulations.
- Implement and monitor safety protocols across all sites.
- Promote sustainability practices in production and operations.
Key Requirements:
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Business Management, or a related field (MBA is an added advantage).
- Experience: 8–15 years in manufacturing or construction materials industry, with at least 5 years in a senior management or GM role.
- Knowledge: Strong understanding of cement-based products, ready-mix concrete, and roofing sheet production.
- Skills: Leadership, financial acumen, operational planning, business development, negotiation, and communication.

JOB TITLE: PRODUCTION MANAGER – BUILDING MATERIALS MANUFACTURING
- Job Summary:
The Production Manager is responsible for overseeing and coordinating all production operations related to the manufacturing of roofing sheets, ready-mix concrete, and cement-based construction products. This role ensures optimal production efficiency, product quality, equipment reliability, workforce management, and adherence to safety and regulatory standards. The Production Manager plays a key role in meeting production targets, improving processes, and supporting the company’s growth objectives.
- Key Responsibilities:
Reporting to the General Manager / Operations Director, the incumbent of the post shall be under the Production / Operations Department and shall perform the following duties:
Production Planning and Execution:
- Plan, schedule, and oversee daily production activities to meet customer demands and delivery deadlines.
- Allocate resources (materials, manpower, and machinery) effectively to achieve production goals.
- Coordinate across shifts and departments to ensure uninterrupted operations.
Process Optimization and Efficiency:
- Continuously monitor production processes and identify areas for improvement.
- Implement Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, or other efficiency improvement methodologies.
- Minimize waste, reduce downtime, and optimize material usage.
Quality Assurance:
- Ensure all products meet internal and external quality standards (ISO, ASTM, SABS, etc.).
- Collaborate with the Quality Control team to implement and maintain rigorous inspection and testing protocols.
- Address quality issues and implement corrective/preventive actions.
Equipment Maintenance and Reliability:
- Oversee maintenance schedules and ensure the reliability of production equipment.
- Coordinate with maintenance teams to reduce breakdowns and downtime.
- Recommend upgrades and improvements to machinery and infrastructure.
Health, Safety, and Environmental (HSE) Compliance:
- Enforce adherence to health and safety policies and ensure a safe working environment.
- Conduct risk assessments and ensure compliance with environmental regulations.
- Train staff on proper safety procedures and use of personal protective equipment (PPE).
Team Leadership and Development:
- Manage, train, and develop production staff across all shifts.
- Foster a positive work environment that encourages accountability, teamwork, and continuous improvement.
- Evaluate employee performance and provide coaching and development plans.
Reporting and Analysis:
- Maintain accurate production records, logs, and reports.
- Analyze production data to assess performance, identify bottlenecks, and support decision-making.
- Report daily/weekly/monthly output, losses, and downtime to senior management.
Key Requirements:
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Manufacturing Technology, or a related field.
- Experience: 5–10 years in manufacturing operations, with at least 3 years in a supervisory or production management role in cement or construction materials.
- Knowledge:
- Roofing sheet manufacturing (e.g., roll forming, coating)
- Ready-mix concrete batching and quality control
- Cementitious product formulations and curing processes
- Skills: Production planning, team leadership, problem-solving, technical troubleshooting, time management, and communication.

Working Conditions:

JOB TITLE: SALES AND MARKETING MANAGER – BUILDING MATERIALS MANUFACTURING
- Job Summary:
The Sales and Marketing Manager is responsible for developing and executing strategic sales and marketing plans to drive revenue growth, expand market share, and strengthen brand presence for the company’s products, including roofing sheets, ready-mix concrete, and cement-based construction solutions. This role leads the sales team, manages client relationships, and identifies new business opportunities while ensuring a strong market positioning in both retail and project-based construction markets.
- Key Responsibilities:
Reporting to the General Manager / Operations Director, the incumbent of the post shall be under the Sales and Marketing Department and shall perform the following duties:
Strategic Sales Planning:
- Develop and implement short- and long-term sales strategies aligned with company goals.
- Set sales targets, monitor performance, and adjust strategies to ensure targets are met or exceeded.
- Analyze market trends, customer behavior, and competitor activity to refine sales approaches.
Business Development:
- Identify and pursue new markets, customer segments, and project opportunities.
- Build and maintain relationships with contractors, real estate developers, architects, engineers, and government procurement officers.
- Lead efforts to win major supply contracts, tenders, and long-term agreements.
Marketing Strategy and Brand Management:
- Develop and execute marketing campaigns across digital, print, trade shows, and field activations.
- Manage the company’s brand image, promotional materials, and corporate communications.

- Experience: 7–10 years in B2B or industrial sales, preferably in the construction materials or building products sector, with at least 3 years in a managerial role.
