VACANCY
Applications are invited from suitably qualified persons of Malawi origin, to fill vacant position of Assistant Surveyor of Vessels (Non-Established), existing in Ministry of Transport and Public Works.
Details of the post are as follows:
POST: Assistant Surveyor of Vessels (Non-Established)
GRADE: K
SALARY: Within the Grade K Government Salary Scale Segment
LOCATION: Areas along the Inland Waters of Malawi
DURATION: Period of Service shall be one year from the date of commencement of service.
QUALIFICATION:
Applicants should possess an Advanced Diploma in Marine Engineering or Advanced Diploma in Nautical Studies with class III Certificate of Competency in Marine Engineering or Nautical Studies obtained from recognized institutions.
DUTIES
- Registering and issuing licenses to passenger/cargo vessels.
- Conducting annual surveys/inspections and issuing Surveyor’s Certificate of sea worthiness of vessels.
- Conducting annual spot surveys to ensure maintenance of seaworthiness of vessel conform to her Surveyor’s Certificate of Seaworthiness.
- Enforcing the inland waters shipping Act and its subsidiary Regulations on the inland waters of Malawi and;
- Assisting vessel owners with technical advice pertaining to vessel designs, repair, maintenance and operation.
